If you haven't yet, you should...

"We call ourselves 'remappers' because that is the colloquial term that everyone understands, but actually we write engine management software. This is much more complex, time-consuming work but means we have several advantages over conventional remappers:

1. We don't touch the original factory software, so there's no chance of us ruining your ECU. Our software goes onto unused space on the ECU and interacts with the original software as necessary (to allow functionality such as immobilisers, ABS braking, traction control etc.)

2. We're not stuck with the legacy of anything the manufacturer creates that's less than ideal in functionality (some manufacturers' software is much better than others).

3. Our software is self-learning, so you can change exhausts, air filters, cams etc. without needing the ECU programmed again. This also means that the bike will perform optimally in all climates and at all altitudes.

4. Our software is invisible and cannot be seen by your dealer or anyone else, so your warranty will not be affected."

Thanks Phil for taking the time to do this. Cheers.

Does it impact the warranty or insurance?

If you have made any material changes to your bike then you should tell your insurer otherwise you could be in breach of contract.

Here's the figures on mine from today

Phill, what speck you running your bike (exhaust etc.) and how many miles you've done before "remap"?

So one man in a garage can write software better than BMW themselves?? Wow.

I know Woolwich have a team of software nerds in their manufacturing facility.

This chap must be a genius.

I know, amazing isn't it, who'd have thought it, clearly it's all bollox.

More importantly, we still don't have an answer to the Mrs Miggins question! :(

I thought with some common sense you would have thought your post through before bothering to post.
BMW write Software to meet the needs of emissions etc. The Genius (HT) writes software to not worry about emissions so much, but to utilise the potential of the Boxer Engine, (and many other engines) simple as that, although some software Writers are better than others though :p

I wish Hilltop had a location over here!

Hmm, wonder if I mailed them my ECM they could flash it?

Ok help me out, who is "Mrs Miggins"?

Thanks Andres I need to look into cost and what's involved to ship to and from the most secure way.

From memory it'll be shipping plus around £300 ~ best phone and ask, mention you heard of them (Geoff) through here.

Ok help me out, who is "Mrs Miggins"?

Oh god, where to start...................?

There have been a zillion threads on here about Hilltop and every single thread asks the same boring questions about who can read the software/does it invalidate the insurance/blah/blah/blah...............

One question that has never been asked though is if Mrs Miggins can read the new code on the ECU so I thought I'd ask this very important & pertinent question................... :D

Exhaust, as you'll remember has had an Akra endcan for the past couple of months. Just over 3000 miles on the bike. Exhaust headers replaced (de-cat/flappy thing gone) with Akra TI headers minutes before the remap.
