I've just connected and mounted a PDM60 to run the Garmin and some DRLs (i bought i flippin months ago, only now have i had time to install it, days before i head off, typical).

All the connections are straightforward except one. I want to connect the trigger wire to the tail light (most convenient i think for the location of the PDM which is on top of the airbox).

Do i have to get inside the tail light or can i pick it up somewhere else. I've been searching but a lack of images doesn't help. Or is there another place i can connect to thats within about 30cm of the airbox? Obviously i can/will lengthen the wire coming out of the PDM.

Does anyone have an image or a REALLY good description of where to connect to?

Cheers :thumb2

Easiest switched live is the feed to the brake light switch, which iirc is on the sub frame rhs frame tube next to the fuse box.
That's where I got my feed from, I can take a pic' tomorrow if you want.

Wiring diagram any help? You should be able to figure out the colour of the wire you want. LINKY

Frankly, your question confuses the fuck out of me! "Ignition trigger" and "tail light" do not seem to be anything to do with one another, or with a fancy auxiliary fusebox, and I can't be arsed to read the instructions to figure out what you mean! My best guess is that you want a switched live that comes on with the ignition. If so, connect to fuse 4 or fuse 7 in the fuse/relay box which is right next to the airbox.

Ah. You made me laugh. I guess I should have stopped to think. Reading those American instructions! Yes, I mean a switched live.

Neil. Your answer fits what I could see. Just like like a fiddle to get to them there wires!

All sorted. But I flippin hate doing electrics.

Below are some pics which might help anyone trying the same thing. To get at the cable I had to cut a few cable ties and make it more accessible. The important detail for me was that the live feed to the tail light on my bike (05 ADV) is Grey & White. Thanks to the Clymer manual and a DVM I could confirm that this was indeed correct. All other diagrams show a Black & Grey wire...

Here's what the Clymer manual shows.

Live feed found and connected and cleaned (do not leave flux in the joints, it'll corroded them quietly).

All taped up and ready for new cable ties and the fiddling at the other end to connect to the PDM 'trigger' wire.

PDM now done and functioning properly .

All I have to do now is drill out the fecking screw that sheared off when I'd chosen it as the earth point. This bike is just full of bloody screws/bolts that have never been serviced
