I'm almost back in the saddle.

Only a small bit done.

Sprayed the fork leg covers and hand guards and also did the rear tail section.

oi loike da'

the first pic of the nose cone looked blue and i thought oh shit but must have been the light

looks good in the rest

Ok so a bit done on the engine today. Delighted to have it started and I think I got to the bottom of the water to oil transfer.

Engine finally on a stand and the first bolts removed from the rocker cover.

Remove the head and cylinder.

One head bolt wasn't torqued at all on the rear head and there had been work carried out before. Don't think that caused water to oil transfer though.

Damage to the piston that looks like the end of a spark plug fell off at some stage and attacked it.
photo84.jpg

Second engine up and remove the piston from it. Much cleaner.
photo83.jpg

Cleaned everything up and fitted the cylinder gasket and new piston rings and refitted the cylinder.
photo92.jpg

Stripped the second head and cylinder and found that two of the head bolts where only on hand tight. No cracking the bolt at all to undo them. There was water beading and oil under the cylinder gasket and oil under the head gasket, there also appeared to be a lot more gunky oil in the water jacket area on this cylinder. Fingers crossed thats the problem found. just to be safe I'm getting the heads pressure tested and skimmed tomorrow. New rings where fitted to the second piston and cylinder gasket has been fitted and cylinder refitted.

Looking good so far. :-D

Pistons cleaned up. New rings fitted, on Phil's advice we fitted the cylinders and heads from the spare engine and also the cams and valves from the other engine.

We're doing the valve clearance tomorrow and refitting the rocker covers.
We also had a look at the clutch and basket cause there was a tapping when I ran it the first and last time. It ended up that the tension on the oil pump chain was very slack. I checked the spare engine again and its chain and sprockets where brand new so changed them over to.

Engine and bike joint together tomorrow for the first time in months and fingers crossed I'll be riding it home from Phil's tomorrow.

Well lads,

Some progress made yesterday but it was slowed down by the fact that when it was been dismantled a few bolts broke on the frame and engine mounts so we had to drill and helicoil them before we could move on. There's still two left to do today, one for a bash plate mounting point and the other on the crash bars.

Anyway here's what I got done yesterday.
Replced the front forks with units I bought last week and fitted the first fairing peace.

Then the fork leg covers hand and hand guards went on nd I got to work modding the high MX style mud guard as the crash bar mounting bar was making contact with it.

1001.jpg

Greased up the rear axle and bearings and refitted the back wheel and changed the pads on the back brakes.
1005.jpg

Finished reassembling the clutch, refitted the clutch cover, Gasket sealed and refitted the rocker covers, fitted the spark plugs so the engine is ready to go back into the frame today.
1006.jpg

Cleaned out the garage to make room for working on the bike with the bad whether today and stock the bike in.

Ok. Still not started but I'm hoping tomorrow she will be back on the road. Today Phil and I did the last few touch up jobs. Heli coiled the last two bolts holes. Recealed the air box. Fitted the remaining engine mounts. Fitted the rads, All hosing, the oil cooler, new oil filter, filled the engine oil, added coolant, fitted crash bars, fitted the carbs (could be a problem with the sensor on the carbs won't know until tomorrow.), fitted the side panels and fitted the air box.

I have pics but cann't up load them off the phone.

Well lads, it's finished. Well all bar butting the bash plate on which I will be getting polished in the next day or so.

Engine is 100% now. Sweet as a nut. The water/coolant stays where its supposed to and the thermostat works and so do does the fan. Happy days.

Paint is better then it was but not 100% happy with it but in general the bike looks good.

Here's a pic of the finished bike with out the bash plate.

Hope you like it after following the thread from the start.

Thanks lads. I'm delighted with it. The pics make the paint and decals look better then they are but it's much better then it was. After the Paddy Dakar I'll do a better job of painting it and I'll do the decals again. I'll stick to these colours though. I like them a lot.
