One of mine deteriorated recently and having problems trying to source a pair of decent 'small' similar ones - plenty of the larger ugly ones available but they look shite IMHO.

Didn't see any crud in the ones I removed and they'd been there well over 10yrs - even the bowl was extremely clean when I had a mosey around in there.

Do we really need them ? Do many of you not bother with them ??

Logic tells me they should be there but there's definately a degree of force from the curvature of the rubber fuel line tank-to-carb which quickly weakens the few filters I've tried.

All advice/recommendations greatly appreciated.

Most items of petrol driven plant plus lawnmowers have in line filters Why not widen your search a little or pop down to your local plant hire counter with the old filter ?;)

If gunge can get past the tank filters, it will get past the inline filter, so they are pointless as filters, useful to be able to see that the fuel is actually flowing though!

Personally I think they're more trouble than they're worth along with jubilee clips and braided fuel lines on Airheads!

I use the small " Made in USA" cone shaped ones with a bronze filter.- I do a bit of country work and there is always the chance of getting a tankfull of rusty sludge from some ancient country general store/ servo.

But they are service items, and I change them every second service with the transmission oil.

A good check to find out if they are getting blocked ?- try a standing start full bore 1/4 mile- if they are clogged you will run out os steam around 300 yards!

Why would I need an inline filter? If the tank was flowing crap into the carbs, I'd clean it out.

Thanks everyone...will do without the filters and keep an eye on the tank filters/float bowl :beerjug:

Err...Cookie...you not sleeping at night? Does Angie know your up doing porn in the night;)
