Weird one
Recently bought a 2005 GSA
When I got it, the right left indicator body (exhaust side and stock exhaust too) had a slight split in it, but lens and body all worked fine
So bought a used indicator from ebay in good nick and fitted it
All good and lens screw all fully home and tight (no over tightening)
Went out for a couple of rides and lens goes awol, with just a plastic stub broken off, screw still in it
So I buy a brand new lens from a main dealer and fit it - all fully home and again not overtightened
Ride out this afternoon and get home, lens missing again......grr - it was there 10 miles back as I was off the bike and all fine
To expand the mystery, the screw is still in the lens body and lying loosely with no broken off stub
So WTF is happening??
All other indicator lenses are fine and tight
Is some dark force at work?
Never in 20 years of GS's (1100 and 1150's) have I ever had a broken indicator lens or even lost one, now 2 from the same indicator - in quick succession

Just AWG could be the body of the indicator is slightly twisted, not enough to see with the eye, and when riding the bike, it vibrates and eventually snaps the plastic stubs off.

A good tip when screwing into plastic is to turn the screw anti clockwise whilst applying a small amount of pressure. When the screw jumps or clicks, you know that the threads are aligned. You can then screw clockwise knowing the screw is following the original thread. It's a procedure I always follow. A course threaded screw is capable of cutting multiple paths in plastic which will weaken it over time.

It could be your used lenses have been weakened by having multiple screw paths cut in them through repeated fitment. Can't understand why your new lens behaved in the same manner. Only you will know how you fitted it.

Nice tip, in the brain now.........:thumb2

Have you got the correct bulb in it? or perhaps the bulb is faulty?? is it flashing correctly ??? or permanently on????
I'm thinking (and its only guesswork could be total boll@x) it may be getting very hot fully sealed, too hot then pop seems strange that the old body was split.

Its happened to me as well , plus I lost my number plate this summer .

Lol exactly what i did to all of mine after loosing 2 the same way.. ;)

(He must be the real Steptoe - its sound advice :) )

Go for the full set ~ tape + cable ties* and the finishing touch: Tail light held on with roofing screw washers held in with wood screws. :eek

*oh - and the plastic body of one of Mrs Ogs inhalers under there for added rigidity. :P
