Hi folks,

Brand new device from Innovv, the N2 for BMW.

It's a nice 6.5", feels very premium and a no thrills kind of device at a good price point.

Full review here:

Cheers!

The N3 was released this week, pre order for delivery next month. The N2 has been out over a year 😂

Yeah, you're right. Wrong wording there...

Wont let me edit the first message, unfortunately. But good call out!

I meant it in a way that's a new type of offering from Innovv which historically are known for dashcams.

The N2 looked great, what it was missing was the quick release, which allows the unit to be moved to other bikes.

This is what the N3 addresses. Not a cheap bit of kit, right up there with Chigee, but looks promising, will be good to see how the N3 pans out.

I almost pre-ordered the N3 today, but I decided to go for the N2 instead. I don't need the quick release because my bike never spends any time on the street.

I had a K7 on my previous GS 1200 which I found a pain to install with my "OCD no cable must be showing" mentality, and with the HEX EZ-CAN required (because I don't do "tapping" or "splicing") as well, it was an expensive toy. Whilst the N3 doesn't need a HEX, it looks like it still needs a feed for the quick release block 🤷‍♂️. I found, though, that I really didn't bother downloading the multitude of files very often, much less sift through the hours of footage to find something interesting. I've had a (barely used) INSTA 360 with a remote for about three years so I will use that now.

Having spent the best part of today looking at the MRA APP (use the route planner) and buying the lifetime option, I then looked at Capuride, Chiggee and came across the INNOVV which I didn't know about. I'm not paying £500 for a Chiggee. I like INNOVV stuff - I started with a K1 and sold that on here - it is very well built, and their stuff is all CNC, but again, I don't need to pay x2 the price (£508!) to have cameras I barely use. So the N2 it is. Plug & play straight out of the box and no installation.

I normally use my phone, but there are many advantages to having a standalone, dedicated and connected system with Carplay. So, all being well, it's likely that soon I will have a nearly new BMW smartphone adapter for the nav cradle available to buy if anyone wants one.

Ride safe ✌️

Ya, I'm with you... With all the offerings right now I don't like to be wiring stuff on the bike, specially on these new canbus sensitive bikes. No problem on older yokes where you just out a relay and you're good to go.

I think the N3 is meant to be a bit more universal.

Cheers!

I know the N2 is older but I like that design. I found the Chigee AIO-6 a tad too small, the Carpuride 702 I use now is a chunky device too. Might take a look at this N2..

Whatever you fit as an extra, at a minimum it will probably need a switched live (so only works when ignition is on) and a positive and earth. Then if you fit cameras etc, they will need the same and some way of keeping footage, so a hard drive with a memory card.

The N3 is basically a N2 (brighter screen and a few other upgrades) that comes with a quick release so you don't have to leave the device hard wired on the bike. It will allow you to swap the device to other bikes. But each bike will need the same wiring and harness and if you want cameras a set of cameras, so you can swap.

It doesn't look like Innov are selling the spare mounting kits yet.

BMW bikes seem to be better suited with plug and play with the original mountings. But you will still need the power requirements.

A Hex or a Cansmart if available for your bike is a good solution as it will plug into the bike and allow connection for bike integration. It can supply the power etc, but will still need a switched live and a pos and earth connection.

Having had Innov K3 cameras on previous bikes for dash cam purposes, they were a great fit and forget, but with my current bike I am just using a battery powered Drift for dash cam purposes, not wanting to strip the bike and fit dash cams, mainly because removing the plastic is a nightmare (non BMW) and most who try break something.

Poor screen as well, compared to its competition. The N3 looks like a much better product but the price is creepung up.

I'd recommend the RiderNav R7M. It's just awesome and a lot sleeker than the Carpuride, etc... I wasn't a fan of 7" but the R7M has turned into my personal device:

Yeah, I don't fit any extra lights nor anything like that. Not my style... that's why I like devices that just use the OEM Nav Prep and don't require any extra wiring. Just my own preference.

People get stuck on the nits count but that doesn't tell the whole story, it's difficult to convey screen quality on a video, not to mention brightness but I can tell you that the N2 looks perfectly fine. Also, I can't remember a single device that I had to put at 100% brightness... maybe because "sunny Cork" aint that sunny but TFT remains at 60% brightness all the time and I keep all navigators at auto levels and they never crank up to 100%, some have the option of setting limits and I set those to 70 or 80% even when they say 700 or 800 nits.

Not saying that you should buy the N2, just saying in general the nit count doesn't tell the whole story. To mee refresh rate and resolution make a bigger difference when looking at the device. Like always, just my humble opinion.

That's not right. A HEX EZ-CAN removes the need to find a switched live; it's incorporated; it provides it, in fact. It still does need to be wired to the battery, though.

It's £369 without camera, £508 with. Having been used to a phone screen for the past 4 years, believe me anything will be an improvement!

Sorry been a couple of years, but you are right the Hex or Cansmart just requires a battery connection (was getting confused with my K3 installation). But if fitting cameras as well, I found the Innov still required a separate connection for its power supply. I tried to use the Cansmart and always had problems. You also need to have a separate battery connection if you want the parking cameras to work, as the Hex or Cansmart doesn't provide power until it boots up, and the Innov parking option requires power at all times to the hard drive.

I was a big fan of the Cansmart (Hex), used to run Denali lights and brake lights from it. I was never successful in running my K3 off it though, although some seem to manage.

Fair point. I've got a RiderNav. I like the brightness to peel the skin off my face. :D

I bought the Ridernav a few days ago and it only took two days to arrive.... first impressions are pretty good, it is a basic device, overpriced like all these devices but it should do what I need and the brightness seems pretty good.

Connections are fiddly because you still need to connect the phone to Cardo.... and limits the connections to the bike to use the Motorrad App and get telemetry data.

so I have them like this.... (but I'd be interested to know if anyone has a better combination)

My phone is an Samsung S25 Ultra

Phone BT to Cardo (default pairing mode)
RiderNav BT to Cardo (GPS Pairing)
Phone BT to RiderNav (this is used for the initial power-on handshake to establish the wifi Android Auto)

But if I then pair my Bike to my Phone as well.... everything gets a bit confused. The RideNav will stay connected until I turn off the bike, then it wont handshake and establish the Android Auto connection. Also the routing of audio can be problematic.

I think I can set some of these setting on my phone but not had time to properly play around with it.

Overall I'd say I am happy with the Ridernav though.

Agreed.... camera's and extra lights all look a bit crap to me.

The idea of cameras is for protection in the case of an incident. Never used mine for blogging, only ever set for dash cam footage. Fitted are better than helmet type cameras, but my drift does ok.
