Instrument Cluster Light

Too late I already fecked it up properly, snapped a piece of the LCD screen off :blast

Sorry Mav, been away. I did say it was fiddly, the tricky bit is getting the metal surround around the LCD unit off without damaging the screed (as you appear to have discovered yourself. I found it just flicks out with an appropriately placed screwdriver blade under one of the left clamp thingys. The PCB is screwed onto the lower plastic casing with five tiny wee screws, four under the LCD screen and one over to the left under the speedo disc. Let me know how you get on with a replacement, I imagine it will be an expensive exercise.

Ordering a GS unit from Motorworks and hopefully can get that synced again by BMW once fitted.

You mean off a 1200GS? It won't work properly. When I took mine apart and had the PCB out to repair the broken tracks I still had to ride the HP, as you do. I chucked on a 1200GS dash that was floating around just so I'd have a speedo. That and the rev counter worked (nice to see how the thing revs out not having one normally) along with the nice red on black dash lights and, as I recall, the gear shift display also worked. You won't get a fuel reading nor the usual countdown to kms left because the GS is configured differently to do this. It's also highly likely (although not entirely sure about this, it might be why the unit was spare :augie) the CDU won't transfer the correct odo reading to the display unit, again possibly to do with a different configuration in the PCB. I'd have thought the PCB from a Megamoto might be a better option, you'd get the rev counter and the nice HP logo on the dash as well :bow but I'd be interested to know if you get a 1200GS unit to work.

Cheers
Garry

Yep that little metal surround was a real bugger and I just accidently presssed on the wrong side and a piece of the LCD broke off. Still works though :nenau But everything is now flashing and going mental.

I will try the 1200 cluster and not to bothered about the countdown as to actual mileage done. I know exactly how far I can go on the HP2 with all 13 liters of fuel on board :D

Motoworks gave me a chaps name who have diagnostic equipment and will phone him. On ADVrider another chap transferred the Megamoto and BMW eventually managed to transfer the mileage. Again I keep track of this anyway and no desire to ever get rid of the bike so if it starts at zero again so be it :beerjug:

Let's see how I get on. As for the logo already got that sorted after seeying this thread :augie

1200 Instrument Fascia from ebay

Will email the chap and ask if he can do "HP2E - Farking Awesome" or something :D

Got my box from Motoworks this afternoon and was I pleasantly surprised when I opened it :D

Got home and could not wait to fit the new instrument cluster.....which I did :beerjug:

My broken speedo, you can see the LCD display is not right and still on even if the keys are out of the ignition.

Switching the bike on all sorts of flashing lights go on even display of a fuel gauge which the bike does not have + the lcd backlight stopped working.

Size a bit more with the tacho part but the fitting points exactly the same and still only one plug

If you don't have problems yet I would seriously suggest you take the cluster off and look at the gaps between the two casings.

Once bitten twice shy or something like that I decided to silicon seal this unit now...

Switching the ignition on with great anticipation everything seem to work fine with exception of it does not recognize my original mileage which is around 31500 miles now. I need to check with BMW if they can synch this odo with my old one.

The facia is a bit better for me on this set and the tacho an added bonus if that floats your boat :augie

Going through the functions the only missing bit is the hours the bike has done, then again I never bothered with that as I service on miles.

Barclays credit card is £201 lighter in the pocket :blast but I am happy with the result :clap

I bet :clap That looks like an Megamoto unit, not one for a 1200GS. All the functions will be much the same and there shouldn't be any worries resetting the milage.

The hour clock on the HP is not cumulative. If you cut the power it defaults to zero. Never bothered with it myself, bike is serviced every 10K (air filter excepted, that's usually monthly) whether it needs it or not :thumb Coming up for its 90K service real soon :blast

I think it looks great Mav and 210 quid sounds pretty reasonable, especially with a rev counter chucked in.

Cheers

Indeed mate I am really happy with the result and also sure this is off a megamoto. Wonder what happened with it as the clock only had 1083 miles on

On my way home tonight the count down timer for the fuel also came on so pretty much everything I had + the tacho. It might be my imagination but it feels faster now too :D

So now we can find out revs/speed in 6th. :clap

What's it doing at 50 and 80mph then?

Buggered if I know

So, despite taking it to bits and sorting the PCB, the dash display was still only half lit. I put it down to moisture getting in an mucking things up with the PCB tracks. Oddly enough we've had 12 consecutive days of rain and the dash display is now fine :blast

I think with 87,000k now on the clock I'm going to give up worrying about it :augie
