I have a problem r80 g/s - a 'damaged' bike I have acquired has no useable instrument, headlight or speedo/ignition...gather the parts maybe available new - anyone got a spare set lying about - he asked cheekily? :augie

Until I find any.....has anyone got any solutions for mounting - in the short term so I can use the bike - a speedo, ignition and headlight? Has anyone who has a G/S - changed parts to aftermarket stuff that allows use and MOT'able? - to get by until originals are sourced? :o

Hi Mark,

As no one has come up with a solution to your problem I will tell you what I did in a similar situation.
Get some universal headlight brackets off ebay, the ones that slide over the fork legs between top and bottom yokes then use a R65 or 45 headlight (not R80 or R100), this gives you a good quality BMW light and it is not too deep, then use some instruments from an R80 RS, RT etc. you will need the mounting bracket aswell. The R80 one will give you the correct ratio for speedo accuracy. You may need the R80/7 top yoke or not just get the instrument bracket first and try it on the G/S yoke first.
The ignition switch may need some imagination as I have a solid ally top yoke on mine and was able to make a plate to fit the ign. switch on the handle bar clamps, but yours will be different.
If you tell me your email address I will send you some pics. of mine.

Ian.

Hi Mark, had the same problem after my brother flipped mine playing off road. Used a universal headlight holder and an R80RT console. Im pretty certain that I used the original GS console bracket and everything fitted right. I mounted the ignition on the throttle side using one of the smaller holes on the headlight bracket.
As a small bonus I also gained a rev counter that worked. Hid all the wiring in a small waterproof Tupperware box behind the headlight.

One of the push bike Sigma computers will get you away for around £15. some of them only go to 63Mph so have a read of the literature.
