Insurance companies now requiring photo of garage?

Send in a screenshot of google maps showing the house has a garage, and the part of the house deeds detailing it has one......

Or just send the bloody insurer, exactly what their chimp has asked for….. which wasn’t a Google maps shot nor a part of the house deeds. But hey, bikermates like to make it complicated.

PS As a mark of bikermate rebellion, send them a picture of the garage, taken in the style of the Giles School. Examples of this can often be found in the shite pictures bods attach to their For Sale adverts on this forum.

i guess humour gets lost on you.

A google maps screenshot is still a photo of your house/garage/dwellings. And your house deeds detailing you have a garage is pretty concrete proof you have a garage - seeing as you've paid for it.

How do they not know you've not taken a picture of your neighbours garage. Clearly they won't know the difference. Unless he sends a picture too?

If you do, it constitutes lying in a proposal of insurance and the policy might be voided. But crack on, it’ll be a laugh.

I would ensure any metadata attached to the photo image is deleted before I sent it. Once sent, it’s in the hands of somebody else forever.

Not that insurers are unscrupulous, dishonest or careless but if a photo of my house with its exact location data plus a picture of my garage contents somehow ended up in the wrong hands I would not be happy about it.

The one off report in the RT forum is not entirely illuminating. What is entirely possible is that the fellow was, shall we say, maybe somewhat opaque as to his garaging arrangements? We have seen similar things on this forum, where bods advocate lying as to where they live, in order to reduce their premium costs.

There again, it might just be a new thing? Either way, it’s hard to believe that insuers will be selling on pictures of bods’ garages to third parties, thereby increasing (not reducing) the theft risk.

I shan’t be losing too much sleep over it, should they ask me for a picture of Wapping Towers. That being said, the underwriter at Hiscox did Google up the street view of my gaff, when I insured my cars and bikes with them.

I agree, for that price I would send them one of my kidneys.
People in the UK do not understand how fucking cheap motor insurance in the UK is compared to other countries in Europe. :D

My garage/lock-up is at a separate address, I always get a few extra questions about it when renewing insurance.

I always say that it's not stored in a garage, as I have seen some policies state that if it's not in the garage, and within xx yards / meters, then the theft part is invalidated. My current garage probably wouldn't pass their security requirements so no point in me declaring it's kept in there. The kept off road / driveway only adds a few pounds to the premium.

YMMV.

Try insuring an ungaraged motorbike in London, you might not find it quite so easy or cheap.

I was going to say.

I ended up renting a garage because no one would insure my HP2 in London unless I had my own lock-up. Underground residential communal garages weren't even in the picture.

When I first went with BMW / Devitt many years ago they told me to take the Thatcham standard disc lock that was a condition of my insurance in to my dealers where I had bought the insurance from to prove I had it. Took it in showed it to the salesman I bought the whole package and he had never come across this before and had no clue why they had asked for it. Had to call them and confirm which disc lock it was he was looking at!

For that insurance price with 0 NCD I’d send them a picture of my wife in the nuddy if they wanted it too. :ROFLMAO:
I think, just for quality control purposes mind, that you should post it on here. Feedback on photo skills will be readily given - and doubtless some other thoughts too.

I'm surprised insurance companies here don't ask for "proof that the bike is kept in a garage"? They do ask if we rent or own, if there's a garage, and if it is kept in there, so maybe that's enough because with a theft claim they will want the police report. And if it does not describe breaking and entering a garage I imagine there could be problems.
RE cost, it's getting pretty expensive here in the States but nothing like Canada! They must have the most expensive motorcycle insurance in the world where $1,500-$3,000 for one motorcycle is the norm.

pretty cheap if you just have "third party" only
That's interesting. I struggled to get anywhere near a reasonable quote in EN1 for third party only on my 1250.

Have you tried to get a quote for a London address for a reasonably expensive bike?

For whatever reason, it was cheaper fully comp.
