Car insurance is due in about 2 weeks time and got a renewal quote which I was quite happy with .

However, early in the Summer I was driving my wife's car when some dozy bimbo ran into it at a pedestrian crossing . she admitted full liability and after a bit of a fight we got the car repaired by her insurance company rather than written off (damage repair was less than £2000). Our insurance company informed of the incident and we made no claim on our insurance .

Now we have three cars , I own one and the wife owns two , all three are insured separately , I insure one and she insures the other two and we are named drivers on each others policies . As it happens at the moment all are with the same company .

Since the incident she has reinsured one of the cars with no issues and no extra premium but I decided just to be doubly sure and cover my back I would make 100% sure that my insurer (the same company ) is fully aware that I had been the driver at the time of the incident .

Cue three telephone calls and almost 2 hours on with the companies renewal centre which is obviously based in the Indian sub continent , numerous delays on hold as the operator spoke to a supervisor and the same details repeated on a number of occasions and neither the operator nor her supervisor could seem to understand that Yes I had been involved in an incident but it was non blameworthy and we had not claimed from either my policy or my wife's policy .

She then tells me to contact the claims centre despite us not having made a claim on our policy .

Ring the claims centre and they switch me to the same Indian renewal centre who start asking the same bloody questions again , eventually get them to put me through to the claims centre , thankfully UK based with a Scottish operator .

Five minutes later she has it sorted because yes I was a driver at the time of an incident but it was non blameworthy , I was not driving on my policy and no claim had been made on either my policy or my wife's policy as the third parties insurance had admitted full responsibility .

They were already fully aware of the incident as we had correctly reported it at the time and it would have no effect on my or my wife's renewal on either of her policies .

Also said I did not even need to make them aware at renewal time .

It was blatantly obvious that the call centre workers were working from a crib sheet and had no f*cking idea as to how to deal with anything that was not on the sheet and hoping that constantly repeating the same questions over and over again would get a reply that would tick one of their boxes.

I have no problem with foreign call centres but when their grasp of English is obviously not 100% and their knowledge of procedures is limited to what is on their bit of paper it is extremely frustrating .

I was at the stage that I was going to cancel the autorenewal and go elsewhere for cover but F*ck knows how protracted that would have been just cancelling the autorenewal

Have you contacted the CEO of your insurance company / intermediary to voice your frustration and displeasure?

I find it far easier to try live chat before actually speaking to a person. You can get on with other stuff as the robot or person scrolls through their list of options and just wait for your phone or laptop to go ping, then reply in your own time.

Not contacted anyone yet , to be honest after this afternoon I was losing the will to live
