Insurance- Green Card and travel insurance for Morocco list

When we entered Morocco via Ceuta last month the insurance 'office' was closed. We knew about this after following this thread.

I acted dumb (it wasn't hard ) and asked the guy at the border where do I buy my insurance, he pulled me in close to him and said "excuse me sir, we don't talk about insurance here", I said "what about the police", he said "they won't talk about it either".... so I didn't pursue it any further

Anyone been through recently or know the current position?

Went through the border at Ceuta on 1st May. Apart from the huge queue (it was a holiday in Morocco as well as here ) the bank and insurance office was closed. Was told to go to Finideq to get the insurance and to find a bank for Dirhams.

JFYI......

Both the insurance and bank at Cueta/Sebta are shut for the long term.

There is however a Moroccan insurance agent in Alegiras, just outside the gates (and over the road) from the multi storeycar park that you queue under to get the ferry.

It doesn't open early, so you can't get the first two or three ferries, but it does mean you can use Cueta without risking riding/driving to Fnideq without insurance.

(There are multiple police points along the coast at the moment with the Port Du Tanger development getting on a bit)

Office is approximately as marked on map below......I was on foot so wasn't able to WP it.

There is now an insurance and money changing place back at Cueta.

It's in the car park area that's used by the Taxis and kids selling tissues/individual fags, just oputside the Border compound.

It's a portacabin in two sections one doing insurance and the other one being a Bureaux De Change.

I have one on the way from Carole Nash, had to pay an extra £18 per week. One of my riding buddies already has his from the same source.

I'm off to Morocco in Oct. I rang Carole Nash yesterday and the company I am insured with at the moment will not cover Morocco. I can get around it by renewing my cover 2 weeks earlier than my renewal date with a company that covers Morocco via Carole Nash: I think it will cost a little more but not an excessive amount.
Alternatively, get 3rd party cover when you get to Morocco.

Just renewed my policy with carol nash with Groupama insurance ,green card provided for travel everywhere exept Iran,cover provided fully comp in the permitted countries.Cost approx £90 extra than the cheapest quote.

I'm really miffed because when i renewed in April i got it in writing that a green card would be available with fully comp cover. I made clear it was a requirement of the policy and to this end they are offering me a "full refund" (yet to work out exactly what that is though).

Who underwrites the Carol Nash policies? I'm seriously tempted to go back and ask them to try harder since a refund halfway through the year is no good to anyone.

Interesting... will you effectivly loose a years no claims if you renew early?

I know the 3rd party Moroccon cover is there as a last resort, but 3rd party only on a bike that costs more than any car i've ever bought seems not ideal.

I was with CN when the 1100 was stolen and to be fair the service was superb, i only left when the price of muti bike policies went through the roof after the theft.

I can see some phone calls comming on.

I have full NCB so renewing a couple of weeks early won't be a problem. I have used Carole Nash the last couple of years for travel/medical insurance as well and they were pretty reasonable.
Wapping and Fanum are very knowledgable about cover for Morocco and Insurance generally: hopefully they will be along soon to share their thoughts on the subject.
As Parkys100 posts, Groupama seem one of the better insurers for Morocco.

Will be speaking with my lot Monday and taking a desision from there.

Right, looks like i'm sorted then

Spoke to insurers at length this morning and came to the conclusion i was going nowhere quick. To be fair they have offered me a full refund inc handleing charges and breakdown cover i.e. everything i paid, so in effect i have had the last 5 months insurance for free.

Called Carol Nash and i had 2 options, a slightly cheaper policy with Norwich Union, but then i have to pay £18 PW additional for my time in Morocco, or Groupama who include the cover in the policy. Obviously more expensive than i paid in May, but given the refund and all things considered, i'm at least breaking even plus getting fully comp in Morocco

Lets hope the bloody green card makes it through the post in time

Just got a reply from ebikeinsurance this morning and, guess what, they don't do a green card for Morocco either.

I'm riding to Morocco next month and will be in the country for a fortnight. So I contacted ebikeinsurance to ask for a green card only to be told they wouldn't cover me for Morocco.

I also contacted a Groupama agent this morning who'd be happy to sell me a years cover + plus the green card but I already have UK cover.

I tried Norwich Union only to be pushed from pillar to post, including Asian speakers and robots, as well as Norwich Union Direct but I couldn't find any human being to give me any answers.

I know I could wait until I reach Ceuta and pay the going rate of £61 or so for a month's cover, but I'd prefer to get a green card here and possibly cheaper. I've tried Googling 'Short term motorcycle cover' but am still no further to getting an answer.

Any ideas?

I'm not from the UK, but I checked my green card, and it have Morocco listed.

I use KNMV (Dutch Motorcycle org.) for my ensurance, and they use London Insurance (part of Allianz Group).

I don't know if Alianz have anything in the UK, but it could be worth looking into.

Half an hour ago I ordered a green card that covers Morocco from Motorcycle direct, underwritten by AXA.

It's the fourth or fifth I've had this year and only once had a problem when the kiddy on the phone said they wouldn't do it- I gave him the numbers from the previous 3 and he called back ten mins later and confirmed it.

This time, no probs at all and I've got agreement in principle that next year's policy is going to be on exactly the same conditions , though they can't quote me yet because it runs out in 34 days (4 days over their max time to quote )

used the porta-cabin at ceuta on tuesday morning. bit of a pain the ass as you had to "pass into morocco" through a gate walking and pass back through the same gate having obtained the carte verte. One policeman wouldnt allow me out to get the insurance without bring up the bike the other guy at the next gate didnt care. stood around in the rain for a while , yes i did say rain, waiting for the adjoining bank to open. he never showed so the insurance guy decided he would accept euro. 50 euro less change of 20 dirham gets you five days cover or 70 euro less 80 dirham change gets you ten days cover. met two sets of bikers from nottingham who "got away" without getting any green carte , but then again i suppose it is only getting away with it until you crash or get pulled over. they were advised to get it at the next town!!!

Assurance office closed at Ceuta last Saturday. Couldn't get insurance in
Chefchaoun but got it in Rabat (Martin, a friend, got his in Fes).

Crossed into Morocco at Ceuta on 21 oct,vehicle registration officer asked if we had green card, we said is it possible to buy in next town (fnediq) he said yes buy it in next town, so we go to next town and guess what? NO.....
No insurance at Fnediq next to cash point either so carried on to tetouan where i bought some from Wafa assurance Dh 950 (ouch)for 1 month,
turn right at 3rd roundabout in tetouan after you come of the toll rd (Dh 6) , its a mini rounabout controlled by lights and petrol station on left, up the stairs next to a pattisserie (mind the wasps),
you could try a haggle i was just pleased to get the insurance, Now in meknes after a fantastic day yesterday riding from chefchaouen to oued laou, good road all the way, on to el jebha where we took a wrong turn ended up going on the coast rd towards Al Hoceima' the road dont exist at the moment as the're trying to build it so it's a "rough piste" to say the least, decided to turn right along an un marked road after 36 klicks (as it was getting dark and we wanted to get to the main tetouan , ketama rd) which turned into a clay farm trak through the precipitous rif after rain two up on a 05 r1200gs ended up coming into ketama the back way via the farms and dodgy geezers , no real hassle but we were coming from a wierd direction to be hustled or hassled, beutiful drive though if a bit hairy at times, 190mile loop back to chefchaouen, took 10 hours unbelievable,
Today rode to Meknes in torrential rain am now drying kit out trying to get used to an AZERTY keyboard insteqd of a QUERTY one.NICE 1

What about taking the crossing to Tangier ? Can you still get insurance and money change there?
