Top news Steve !

Glad you're not having to sell your bike.
Watch out for a red R1100RS on the Westway.
Happy New Year,
Geoff.

Usual story.

Bod rants about inability to buy insurance, being forced to sell his bike and the general stupidity of the world. Then, instead of ranting and complaining, he dedicates himself to a bit of effort in seeking alternative quotes..... ending up with a much better deal than he ever anticipated.

£310 for three bikes, ungaraged in London. 85p a day..... not a bad return for a few phone calls and bit of keyboard tapping.

No, my rant actually! Bod gave good advice..
I'd done the work, rang loads of companies going through the group insurance thing (very tedious, you can't do it online) only had one offer including the R1200GS if I didnt include passenger insurance (??).
I didnt initially do the M otorrad quote because of their website warning, a long list of conditions with a not very clear invite to call a number if you dont comply with the conditions.

The problem is an over complex quote system with so many diferent weightings for diferent attributes, passenger, parking on street, postcode etc that when you mix it all up in a group qupote you get anomilies that don't make sense. ie I have 2 bikes parked in my front garden and one locked in a garage at my girlfriends a 100miles away. One company was concerned that the bikes were kept 100 miles apart! What, are they going to get lonely! They were happy to quote for all bikes in the front garden in London as long as I didnt include passenger insurance! Insuring the bikes third party made no diference to the weighting for where parked??? Common sense out of the window in favour of 'computer says no'.

That's me done with, totally recomend Motorrad for sensible prices..
Cheers

Yup, it was your rant for sure.

You are the bod I referred to, the bod who was about to sell his bike etc etc etc all woe is me, nobody will insure me........ You then, instead of ranting, got on and found alternatives... admittedly with help from a bod who styles himself 'bod'....

A good example, if ever one was needed, that it pays dividends to put in a bit of effort when seeking Motor insurance quotes, whether you live in London or on the Isle of Skye.... ;) :beerjug:

More importantly another excellent example of the help and advice freely given on this site. "Bod" saved the OP bod from selling his beloved bike and saved him money as well. What a result, long live UKGSer.com:)

I had the opposite problem with BMW Motorrad Insurance in that they upped my renewal by 60% with no changes to the risk (the underwriters had changed) so I went with Carole Nash instead. No doubt the reverse will happen on my next renewal when I become a "new" customer for somebody else :nenau Great deals to be had for new customers but sod off if we had your money for 12 months.

Spot on :thumb2

So, once again, the answer is: Shop around. It's a commodity, nothing more.

If it's available cheaper.... Buy it.... and moan that you've been forced to shop around.

If it isn't.... Don't..... and moan that it's all a rip-off.

Through Perth straight for 77 miles turn right keep going for 14 miles then left, straight for 23 miles left again and it's the house on the right over the river. Your welcome any time, the kettles always hot here.:beerjug:

Strange thing is, I could find your gaff without looking at a map! :eek

Your welcome anytime. Do me a favour if I'm not about. There is a few quid under the handbrake lever, nip down the town for milk and butteries and put the kettle on when you get back. I won't be long, make your self comfy and chuck a stick on the fire.:D
