Folks, a few questions. I'm at that time of year again and I've rung round the usual suspect _ CN, MCE, Cornmarket and AON.

Aon too expensive and Cornmarket and CN very similar.

The thing is, I got a VERY good quote from MCE (adelaide) but the excess is €1500. And, I've heard a few stories about them being reluctant to give no claims bonus docs at the end of the premium.

Does anyone have any strong feelings on this. I guess I'm just looking for advice based on your experiences.

I'm veering towards Cn over cornmarket, despite them being about 30 euro more expensive and I'm not basing my inclination on anything other than the fact that I've been with CN for a few years now. Anyone any real world experiences as to who I should go to? Like I said, MCE gave me a VERY good quote but I'm not sure if they are to be trusted:confused:

PM me if you have something to advise me of that you don't think should be public.

Thanks gang:aidan

I was being quoted €700 renewal for the two bikes with Carole Nash. I ended up going with Principal, a new entrant in the market, for €300. It is fully comp and includes European breakdown cover.

All that's missig is ...

I notice you dont mention Liberty insewerance.
Have you got an assessment done with Axa or Liberty?
Might reduce cost.
... if only you knew an assessor. :augie

Another vote for principal. :thumby:

I was with MCE, I don't think there is any bad intent in terms of sending out docs, they are just very poorly organised,. I was with them last year having been with CN previously. CN gave the usual jacked up quote as is their wont, MCE had a much better quote and I went with them. Took 3 phone calls to get all the docs sent to me. When it came to renewal they just didn't get in touch so I went with Principal who had a very good quote. A week later MCE called me about renewal, when I asked for the NCB they emailed it immediately.

Try principal. Definitely worth a comparison.

Yes, I had an assessment done many moons ago with aon. I'll defo get 'someone' to give me another assessment this year before next years renewal. I'd like better than a grade two. I've improved significantly ;)

I didn't mention Liberty because they refused to quote me a few years ago, I didn't meet their criteria and I didn't bother calling them.

I hadn't heard of principle. I'll give them a call in the morning.

Interesting what you say about MCE. I think I will leave them alone. I really don't fancy the hastle and their excess is massive.

I found CN brought their quote down by over half when I told them other offers.

I'll cal Principle in the morning and choose.

Thanks lads.

I eventually got Carole Nash down to €400. When the nice lady asked did I want to go ahead with it, I said I would have, if that was the initial quote, but as you fecked around so much you can get stuffed.

They are my feelings too. 40 mins on the phone with them. Answered the same questions about 3 times.

Looking forward to talking to principle tomorrow.

I just went with Principle

CN

Got my quote from CN and it was only about €30 more than last year, 360 ish for two bikes.
They ended up ringing me when I was in a rush out the door and I said Go ahead. When the receipt arrived, it was nearly €60 dearer. On the blower straight away:rob and they apologised for not having updated the quote, and refunded me.:aidan
I also corrected some mistakes on the paperwork which I had already corrected on the phone and they told me that would have put the price up further. Methinks somewhere else next year!!

I've been with AXA/AON/AXA for a fair few years now. Every year I get an increased renewal......I then go and get a cheaper quote from one of the new kids on the block and AXA always get within a few quid of the cheaper quote.
I like to stick with AXA, there is a building......with chairs, desks and actual people.

Did Adelaide not change to Cornmarket?

I was with Adelaide, now Cornmarket according to my correspondence. Had a fairly huge claim this year, 20k, and after a bit of negotiations they paid no problem, €500 excess... Waiting for renewal shock in June but service was very good and they paid no problem.

A friend of mine had a crash in France on our trip last summer, he was with adelaide, the assistance (or lack of) that he received was disgraceful. This is not hear say, I was standing beside him for the 4 hours he was getting bounced from billy to jack on the phone. Ended up having to organise his own recovery for the bike and then it was taxis, hitch hiking, trains and buses from the alps back to memmingen in Germany.

Hi.

What are you guy's profiles? Are some of the insurers in Ireland better or worse than others for older riders, bigger bikes, etc? Or is it all just the same out-of-a-hat farce as car insurance here?

Thanks,

Mark

53 years old, passed my bike test at 17, never made a claim on a bike policy , no convictions , bikes kept in an alarmed garage in one of the lowest risk insurance post codes yet every year they try to bump up my premiums by a couple of hundred quid.
Negotiate with them and surprise surprise they can always match the previous years quote.
Same rigmarole with the car insurance yet according to all their e mails I am a valued customer !

Well start bloody treating me like one

I have the same experience. I think its sad to have to put so much work in each year , for each vehicle. We have better ways of spending a day heh ?

I'm 42, full licence for 6 years, 12 years Ncb.

Ringing principle shortly.

I've just paid up with Principle. Very easy to deal with.

3 payment options. In full, half this month and half next month or 15% deposit with the premium spread out over 9 months. Great options in my opinion.

€270 fully comp for the one bike. Same as the other quotes but nice to deal with.

I'm happy:)

Not teaching you to suck eggs, but don't accept their first quote, tell them you are waiting for some other quotes, tell them to ring you back later (or tomorrow) you will probably find that ££££ will drop;)

Yup. Every year my insurer tries it on. I phone them up and tell them I'm disappointed.....invariably ends up coming down again....and then some - sometimes.

I agree but I'm happy with the quote. I got it down by €160 from last year.
