Insurance renewal time

I've just paid up with Principle. Very easy to deal with.

3 payment options. In full, half this month and half next month or 15% deposit with the premium spread out over 9 months. Great options in my opinion.

€270 fully comp for the one bike. Same as the other quotes but nice to deal with.

I'm happy:)
That's very cheap....... I'm a few years older, full no claims bonus, clean full licence and bike garaged. Yours is about 100 cheaper than mine.
Do you live on the grounds of a Garda Station or something??

Sent using a Jedi mind trick!

Well for a start, my bike is worth buttons...

I hope bike insurance is'nt going up like car insurance, got my renewel last month for the car,up 42% on last year bargained them down to 25% more and couldnt beat it online, some companies were over double last year and I thought I was at a safe age etc, heard some people got a lot worse renewels than me though...

When renewing my car insurance last summer, they hiked me over 31%. I called them and asked for a better quote. They wouldn't oblige, so I told the girl I wouldn't be renewing with them and I went off and rang what felt like every other player in the market in Ireland. None were cheaper than my current insurer's quote. I felt just great ringing them back to accept their quote. :blast

It's galling that the insurers (bikes & cars) are let hike their prices so freely.

So at age 47 (full A licence since 2006, no bike NCB), who should I be calling for insurance? And what might I expect to pay?

I'm aiming for an R1150GS or R1100GS, which will be parked in front of my apartment (alarmed (that's the plan anyway), covered & chained to a lamp post) in a north county Dublin suburb.

Call them all. Then call them all again. I only went two rounds this year but I have gone as many as three in previous years.

Do they not all take your details when you call them? So don't they know it's you again?

? That's not the reason for repeatedly ringing them a number of times. The idea is to use a good quote from one company to apply leverage to another company to get a better quote. In theory, keep ringing until the price bottoms out. It takes time....

Ah. I thought you meant tricking them that you're a different person each time you call them.

I guess with fewer bikers in the market than car drivers, the bike insurers do genuinely have to compete for a slice of that smaller market - the car insurers can afford to be more stubborn.

Renewal with Bennets came in at 114
I like CN but they came in at 160ish
did a gocompare and a compare the market and the best coming back is a paltry 73 with the post office (Devitts eventually IIRC), no vol xs, std xs 250
MCE with breakdown is 83 ish
Principal 130 ish
53, 2005 GS decent no claims bonus protected, fully comp

any thoughts?

Can you explain all that for me please?

:)

It's cheaper in Ireland to insure a motorcycle. It's very different to when I started. I'm 12 years on a motorbike.

Sorry SOBoots, was trying to be concise, wound up coming over as lazy.
All prices in £sterling
CN=Carol Nash
gocompare, compare the market= price comparison websites
post office=Post Office
no vol xs= No Voluntary Excess
Std xs= Policy Excess stated in policy (varies massively)
MCE=MCE Insurance (don't know what it stands for)
Principal=Insurer discussed previously in thread
53, 2005 GS decent no claims bonus protected, fully comp= Age 53. R1200GS from 2005, No claims Bonus at 9+ years, requested to be protected and requiring fully Copmprehensive Insurance.

Hope that's clearer.

I going to stay with Bennetts, it includes Legal, Personal, helmet and leather and full EU Breakdown with RAC and its 12% cheaper than last year.

As mentioned in another thread:

Phoned up Adelaide Insurance (Belfast) and got a quote for 4 bikes (3 of which are significantly-modified) - great service, and a great quote.

Sent them my list of bikes, with modifications listed with values, together with a side-on pic of each one.

Unlike a lot of other brokers/underwriters - all the modifications are not only accepted............ but are covered too!

In the case of my R-1, that is Power Commander, Cans, Full Ohlins suspension, Carbon Fibre wheels.

They understood the need to acknowledge the acceptance of the modifications - which most other brokers don't.

Tip top service, and 2/3 the price of Carol Gnash (and all the shite - that entails  )

I'd recommend giving James Fraser a call, on 028 9044 2200.

Al :D

I thought we have

Carol Nash
Principal
Adelaide
Cornmarket
MCE

Adelaide may now be Cornmarket?

I think there's a sixth as well, but I can't think of it right now.
