Insurance renewal time

We were with Axa for both bike policies, my car and kevs van. Kevs bike policy came up for renewal and they wouldn't budge on the new, significantly higher price. I rang principal and was very impressed with the service from both Colm and Shannen. I got a lower quote, rang Axa to see would they reduce the price but the wouldn't, even when I told him that I'd move all our other policies.
I've just gone with principal for my car insurance and when my bike policy is up I'll be moving that too.

Principal have an office, with furniture and people in it too:thumb

If you don't mind me asking........ what sort of percentage did your AXA policy increase by?

Sent using a Jedi mind trick!

Insurance time again....2 years ago I paid €325 for 2 bikes with CN(HD and GS+I'm on the way to the bullseye, full bonus,no p points),last year they wanted €450,rang them back and they went up to €480,Principal done a like for like at €303..got renewal yest from Principal for €354,surprise surprise CN rang this morn, came down to €300,rang Principal..price match,CN rang again this eve 2 see if I'll go ahead told them I need 2 think, policy not up till 17th April, car insurance gone through the roof but bikes coming down!!!!,just worried,Principal came in and got price down,CN now trying to underprice them and get them out to get a monopoly again(remember Hibernian in the 80's and 90's only bike insurance we could get)!!!I know there's AXA,Adelaide and Mce,wouldnt even try Liberty but I think we need to be careful.....think I'll stick with Principal....what d'ye reckon??

My AXA renewal came in last week......€480. I rang Principal.......€275. Rang AXA back.........€380 (same as last year) The only downside with Principal against AXA is they don't cover your riding gear.

For the record, I'm 47, full no claims, spotless license (nil point), Kildare, R1200GS Adventure '07 kept in brick garage with its factory immobiliser. I will be going to Principal. It looks like AXA will be pushed out of the motorcycle market, more's the pity.

A friend of mine is insured with Bennetts, they always seem very competitive and they were very quick to pay him when he wrote his GS LC off last year, he was wearing good quality clothing which did the job of protecting him against serious injury, but all that was a total write off too as it shredded, the only problem here was that he found to his expense he was only compensated about half of the replacement cost, Bennetts apparently use an independent insurer and pay a maximum of £800, so worth reading the small print & keep all receipts to evidence costs.

And before that they were called Norwich Union in the SEVENTIES - the only insewerance co. in Ireland! :D
Still remember the MAG "RoadRunner" magazine, as it was then, with a cartoon on the front cover; "Scum of the earth competition"
in 3rd place, i think it was politicians, 2nd place Bike thieves and in first...... Bike insurance companies! (well, we couldn't really be totally direct about it :green gri )

now, i.m.h.o;
Axa - best for me - multibike and instructor cover.
But if i were shopping, for one Bike cover;
CN - no ta. fed up with their bullshit.
Principal - making a name for themselves - and have the knowledgeable staff with Bike experience.
Adelaide - ???
MCE - ?!?!?! no thanks. totally unknown quantity - i'll let someone else find out if they're any good when it comes to a claim.
Liberty - have got a lot better and many find their price the best (if you are one of the targets audience they want to cherry pick as you are low risk. )

Good Luck guys - my choice is slim due the the instructor bit - i'll stick with Axa and am happy to.

EDIT:
to our U.K. based brethren - Ireland is not the same as the U.K. for insurance - may as well be a different planet.
All those ads in MCN - they just upset us / we cant apply.

For those considering Principal in Ireland. When getting a quote, use the code "PrincipalMasters1" for a further €20 off your premium.

I just found out that AXA will only pay out a maximum of €600 for kit. AXA's excess is €650 whereas Principal's is €350. Food for thought.

auto renewal with Carole Nash - no not ever

Just had a letter from Carole Nash telling me that from 01.06.2016 they will automatically renew your policy.
Apparently, you will be able to opt out.
What planet are they on?
Every quote that I've had from CN has had to be renegotiated down, significantly down.
So why would they think I'd let them automatically renew.

They tell me that from a recent survey of their customers, they had a positive response to continuous renewal.
So how many of you tossers made this positive response?

Keep on top of them last March I told them I would not entertain Auto Renewal, buggers still tried it on this year

most places try that on now

apparently most people dont check when its renewal time

car pay 340 renewal was 477!!!!

told them the week before due do not auto renew or theyll see the wrong end of a solicitor (they cannot legally hold your cc details on file for this)

changed car and ins is now 240 :D

bike was 94 with hastings and they also do it theyve been told 4 months in advance in writing not to auto renew

carole nash office is 3 miles from here and even tho they advertise locally as cheap cheap theyve always been 30% more than anyone else when looking for a quote and ive not had a sportsbike or a claim in 16 years

madness

Carole Nash are thieving pricks! Tried to charge me (on behalf of the underwriters) - a surcharge of £50 for an address move. Chased them for 3 weeks to prove that it was a bone-fide charge from the underwriter......

They eventually admitted that it was a REFUND. !

Did I mention that they were thieving pricks? I hope all their employees get terminated and end up selling their sisters on the streets!

Al

Same for health insurance. If you let that auto renew you are almost guaranteed to be on a plan that's hundreds of euros more expensive than another with same level of cover but with a new fancy name. During Celtic tiger era I let everything auto renew, when I had to count the pennies I was shocked at how much money I'd seemingly wasted.

Renewed on Wednesday. €241 for my 2007 R1200GS Adventure, fully comp with all the bells and whistles!!

Principal Insurance.

That's €140 cheaper than AXA could do for me and I'm with them for years.

Big difference

I know back last February, I had renewed with CN and I was reasonably happy because they had fecked up and undercharged me. But then in May, I changed bikes and needed to sort insurance in a hurry  I can still feel the pain. I think they had sand in the Vaseline too.

So now at renewal time, CN quotes me €696!! up from €380, and after getting about €600 out of me in May. Of course on a call back, they came down to €460 or so and reduced the excess from €700 to €350.

Adelaide rang me out of the blue and will do it for €470 ish.
Online quote with Liberty about the same.
Axa......................."you haven't jumped through nearly enough hoops yet to get a quote". Not an exact quote, but after 3 calls and about 40 minutes on the phone, I still haven't got a quote.

But Principal have given me a quote of ........................wait for it.............................

€274

Now here's the thing. Both CN and Principal are using the same underwriter, Zenith. But Principal have an excess of €250.

So, am I missing something here or should I just take Principal's quote before they realise what they've done?? :nenau

Anyone any recent experience of them?

Somebody give me guidance..........Please..

I would take the Principal deal and see what happens come renewal in another 12 months.

FWIW,

Principal are making the most effort to woo custom way from the others.
Some of the staff at least know their business as they previously worked for the 'opposition' ;).
So, they should at least know WTF they're doing.

This info comes from my MAG days. So a couple of years out of date, but as far as i know still applicable.
I think i'd give them a years business - but no company can beat the Instructors policy i have with a different company!

Good Luck.
