Interference

Looking for some advise on interference, i have A TK359 powered from a adapted battery illimanator that is powered from the same point as my Autocom unit (12v plug under the seat) i fitted those metal thingys (cant remember what they are called) one on the - wire and one on the + wire on the 12v side of the battery illimanator, Radio and illimanator all mounted under the seat. I have fitted one of the screen mounted arials to the right side of my screen with the lead running down the nearside of the bike, radio is at the moment programmed to the Motorola PMR channels.

I went out Wednesday night for a test ride after installing this set up on my bike and all was fine although i couldnt test the range. Thursday went out with the Garmin 660 fitted and i was getting some intererence although not to bad, but today went out with a mate and the interference was very bad when either of us spoke over the radio, and then to make things worse i started getting a bleeping noise

Anyone got any ideas as to what ive done wrong or what i need to do to rectify these problems

what are "metal thingys" Oh, maybe you mean ferrite rings???
elimination of possible cause include
retest after each to see what is happening

try using a handheld radio instead of this mates set up to see who is producing the noises!
if its your set up then

try running the radio off internal battery, that will tell you if this is ground loop interference or not. maybe those "metal thingys" are not working?

try re-locating the radio away from the autocom

try running without external aerial at front to see if the (un)screened lead back to autocom is the issue, picking up engine fuel pump etc noises

had another thought

how close was your mate when you were talking on radios, if not separated then you will get humming as overloading radio.
also
the beeping
was this when you switched from transmit to receive??
ie "a roger beep" produced by the radio??
also
zumo do beep when you have warnings coming up....was there anything on the zumo screen popping up in time with the beeps???

The bleeping was random and never when transmitting or recieving, most of the time it was a bouble bleep but sometimes a triple pretty sure it was nothing coming from the Zumo, and it just seemed strange that it wasnt doing it for the 1st couple of hours.

maybe the bleeping was from another radio, pmr freqs are frequented by a variety of users, some normal, some knuckledraggers

Yeh thats what i thought at 1st but it lasted from Bristol to Bridgwater some 40 odd miles, unless it was a knuckledragger following me

Wondering if it was the 359?? would it bleep to tell you there was a problem with the radio

It might well beep if there's low voltage, i.e. it thinks the battery is going flat. Might be worth checking your connections and that your battery eliminator is putting out the correct voltage under load.

As russ996duke suggested, try running the radio off a fully charged battery. If you have a bad connection either in your wiring, or the eliminator malfunctioning then that might well explain your interference.

Looks like i have a problem with the elimanator, unpluged the Autocom lead from the radio turned the ignition on and it started bleeping straight away, when i looked at the radio it was switching on and off and that was what the bleeping was just need to find out whats happened to the elimanator now, i did put the meter across the output and it was 9.3v when i installed it it was 7.4v.
