At last I updated my iPad to OS 8 (or whatever) last night. It said to make sure that it had a minimum of 50% charge or to leave it plugged in to the charger, so with a charge of 40% I left it on charge while updating. (OK, I know all that is probably irrelevant, but I'm telling you anyway) I had a look at it a couple of hours after and the screen had the Apple logo and a progress bar(?) underneath showing that the process was about 95% complete. It's still like that fifteen hours later. Pressing and holding the on/off switch or the round button at the front edge has no effect.

Now I seriously need this to work, all my emails for our holiday (flight, hotels etc. etc.) in less than a week are on the iPad, and there's nobody local that does iPad repairs.

Any suggestions, please?

Try plugging it in to your PC/laptop and start Itunes (if it isn't automatic) on your PC.

That might set it away?

My ipad wouldn't switch on one day, and that kicked it alive.

Well, feck me pink, while waiting for a reply on here I tried getting the bastard to do something ... anything... I tried pressing both the on/off and the home button at the same time for about ten seconds. The screen went blank for a couple of seconds and then it started on the update for the second time. It took about a minute to finish the job, and I am delighted. Delighted, I tell you.

There's more; not only have I sorted the thing out but I just realised that it took only THREE minutes to get the first reply on here, and another one very soon after that.

This place... it's magic, I tell ya:

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
...
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
...
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
...
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this UKGSer

Thank you both. :beerjug:

For anyone else who'd like to press both buttons while it's updating....

You run the risk of bricking it and having to do an iTunes restore, and reloading the last backup. BTDT on parental one.
