hi i know this has been over done but heres my question.
i am getting a 800gs next week and intend to use it with a comfort seat, the problem is a quoted seat height of 895mm with this seat.
i am an average shortass with a 30" inside leg so i know i am going to have to lower the bike but my question is will a 50mm kit be enough for a stiff auld lad to be able to get on and off and touch the ground with out having a heart attack every time i try to ride it.
bought it because i want something handier than my 12gsa but while its lighter its a good bit higher

sorry for asking a question thats being asked so ofter before

I have a 30" inside leg and have managed for a couple of years with a standard seat on the F800GS but with my hip getting stiffer I plumped for the low version of the Touratech Kahedo seat a revelation comfortable and both feet flat on the floor

I am 5ft 7" with an inside leg of 29"/30". Got a 2013 F800GS in April with lowered option (lowered seat and rear spring) which ends up as 820mm I believe. I had similar reservations as I was initially looking at a KTM with an 875mm seat height.

I can get 1/4 foot down with the bike straight upright, and it isn't an issue - love the bike and wouldn't change it for the world. Never had a wobble, drop, etc. Another 3 inches might be a struggle though as you'd be leaning to get a foot down. A full tank of fuel might make that an issue. I tested an F800GS with standard spring, and tried (in the car park) both the lowered and comfort seats. I wasn't happy with the comfort seat at all, but the lowered seat allowed just enough reduction.

I might be wrong, you might have no problem at all. But I'd be asking myself (as I did in April)

1. Do you need the comfort seat? (I find the lowered seat to be OK, although not everyone does)
2. Are you looking at the right bike for you?
3. Have you tested one at that height?

I have the comfort seat and dropped mine by 50mm, got a similar inside leg and I can flat foot it.
If you need to lower more you have the option to drop the front end on the forks, by another 25mm +.
If you go for the Hyperpro progressive spring lowering kit, you get the added benefit of better handling on tarmac!
With Reduced front end dive when you hit the anchors :)

now that is the answer i wanted,i am planing on going the hyperpro 50mm lower route anyway and thought my 15+ stone would give me a few mm more, gonna try it and see.

Decent (but not extremE so they're uncomfy) MX boots will also help, by giving you a better force to the front/toe of your boots....take off the steel caps though, they'll slip and slide and deposit you on your harris. DAMHIK :blast

I'm a 30 inside leg, bike is five years old now.i use a tt low seat and hypro springs 25mm back and front the height is perfect now.have to wind the suspension up when using full panniers.
The issue I have found with lowering is sometimes you have to flip the bike quite far over to get the side stand up!!!

The springs transformed the bike,no diving on the front,I've not noticed any issues off road with them but I only go on easy fore tracks ect.
Hope this helps.
