Is the grass 'orangier' on the other side?

wise move:thumb2

if its not going off road for a while set the bouncy stuff to sports, it will shock you how well it handles, like a sportsbike on stilts:D

in fairness I never had any complaints at how the GSA handled

true but you will notice the front diving under braking a whole lot more on the ktm (conventional forks) setting the forks to sports will help with this as your used to the telelever not diving, it will be noticable on the ktm:thumb2

I'll give a thousand miles or so and think about mods,

Wise move indeed as there are lots of farkles to choose from.

Its a certain leap of faith to buy the bike without a test ride but it looks a mint, and yes they certainly feel alot brisker than a GS.

Hope you enjoy it. :thumb2

I just figure that there's nothing else out there that I'd like to own just now, So it's KTM or Bust. Perhaps if it's not for me I;ll sell it and get a great big train set!

no chance the katoom will just turn you into a hooligan:D:D:D the ktm sets the benchmark in this class.

brand in trouble ,no shaft drive ,poor economy ,narrow seat, and only in orange ,uuumh i loves me gs1200 xxxx:thumb2:bounce1:thumb2

The reason I've sold my 12GSA is because of the poxy final drive, I've subscribed to the KTM forum and I have to say it's quite refreshing

No threads about fuel pump controllers
No threads about EWS problems
No stories about recovery trucks
etc etc etc

I'm not stupid enough to believe that KTM's never fail but there certainly doesn't seem to be threads about consistent problematic components that are common place here.

thats very true they seldom go wrong:thumb2

now i had one little problem with mine that took some sorting, nearly had me off the bike, and was all down to a 50p electrical connection:rolleyes:

very easy to sort and well worth checking out on yours

The only thing that you read about all the time is the abrupt throttle response.
Also the weak front brake, especially compared to the GS. Another problem for some is the wind noise/buffeting.
No getting away from the fact that it's a more fun bike though.
I just rented an SMT in Japan for four days riding in the mountains & loved it. I'm sure either the SMT or RC8R will be my next bike.........:augie

Maybe foolislhy maybe not but I've decided to buy one without having ridden one, I'm wanting my first ride to be a surprise one way or another!

From those who are in the know, Are they that much 'brisker' than a 12GSA?

Changed my GS 12 for a 990 also without having ridden it. Great bike (but then so was the 12) Change the (heatsink) Zorsts.
