I've been thinking about getting a small box made that would fit in front of the number plate under the rack. maybe dump the plastic.
I don't want a top box, I always thought that they put the weight too high and when I read on Advrider about the guy whose back was broken by the top box when he was rear ended by a car that was the decider.

Does the rear seat still fit as normal?
With one of those I'd simply put the tools into a waterproof wrap and dump the tray altogether. I'm sick of the rattling over rough roads of which we have plenty up here.
I'll take a photo later of it beside the plate so you get an idea of size if you want.
