Hello folks.

I've fitted a BOS "Y" piece and exhaust. I understand it should run fine from the default bike set-up, but having read about Steptoe's mod, I'm not sure if my bike is standard or not or of I need to do the mod?

The fuse box looks like this:

And the white grid looks like this:

As you can see there are 2 wires. From searching around the forum and reading various posts, it would seem that I need to remove the longer wire. Or do I?

Also, I seem to remember the guy who sold me the bike saying it had a performance chip - I can't remember but he might have kept the chip with the remus pipe that was fitted (since I needed to get the price down a bit) - if it does still have a chip, where would I be looking for it?

Any advice appreciated, as always!

The Bos system includes a chip that replaces the standard Motronic one. Under the tank and not easily get at able. Google will help describe how to replace this chip. BTW also google ESD, or look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrostatic_discharge

http://www.bos-exhausts.com/bmw-eng-pond/index-bmw.html and look at "complete kit" then item #14 on page 2. IIRC they don't sell the chip seperately and I can't see why you'd keep a chip in when you don't have the y-piece and can on.

Fuse box mods are not part of the Bos setup, usually. AFAIK etc etc

Thanks John - I didn't get a chip with the exhaust.

Does it look like my fuse box is standard or has someone been sticking in wires?

I actually can't see any wires :o but will guess they're in the middle row of three? If they are, then that's the area, IIRC, for the Steptoe mod.

Ask 5 people and you'll get 7 opinions on the "best" set-up. I personally didn't do this mod when I had a remus on an 02 1150GS and it "seemed" to run fine. I fitted the y-piece, can and chip to my 05 1150 GSA and I think it ran better as there was less popping and banging on the over-run, and it didn't burn holes in the left pannier

Haha... seems to be a bit of a black art, this ;)

It is popping a bit, but to be expected. It is a touch to drone-loud though so am gonna put the baffle in I think.

Thanks John - advice always appreciated.
