Issues with importing routes from Basecamp to Zumo 660to

I'm going on a bike trip to the French Alps and have preplanned a lot of routes using Basecamp (Mac). I've uploaded them to the device, via basecamp, and when I go to the Import data command I can see all the routes BUT it's not allowing me to import most of them.

It either gets to about 86% and then hangs, or it starts importing and the screen just switches off. I've imported about three of the routes OK. I've tried importing them all at once and doing them individually, neither has been fully successful.

When I do get one to import then it always seems to hang at 98% for a very long time, before finally loading.

I'm also getting an error message saying that the device tells me it can only store 20 routes. Is this correct?

I have an additional memory card installed but I'm not sure if I can just copy the .gpx files into a folder and then load them as I need them whilst I'm on the trip, whilst deleting others to keep it to 20.

I am leaving early next week and would like to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

The other issue I've found is that sometimes it recognises the memory card and sometimes it doesn't giving a very small playlist of music.

Can not help with the basecamp issue but as far as the music playlist is concerned this seems to be fairly common - a reboot has helped me in the past and then 'play all' saved as a new playlist also works

I had problems with long routes with many waypoints, try splitting the route in two parts and see if they load then ?

I think you can also load the routes directly to the Memory card and then import them on the device as you need them.

I just split one up and I also moved some of the waypoints "away" from major junctions as someone on another forum said this can mess things up. So far it worked....

... I wish this stuff was easy!!!!!

I seem to be doing a bit better, the tip of not having waypoints right at junctions has helped with the importing.

I've transferred to the Garmin successfully, it's the importing of the data that is more of a challenge sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't..

Maps are the same on both I think. I recently updated the Garmin to Europe 2012.1 but I can also see 2011.1 in the basecamp menu.

My memory card seems to have a life of it's own, sometimes it shows up and sometimes it isn't showing. As all my music is on here it's pretty annoying. I've tried three different cards. If I remove the battery and pull it out and put it back then it sees to come back again.

One final Basecamp question - How do I once and for all delete routes from Basecamp and the Zumo?

I will delete routes on basecamp and manually on the Garmin (or through Basecamp) but when I send or receive most of them come back again. Do I need to use the "delete from my collection" option?

I also find that the Zumo has 4 or 5 of the same route loaded onto it. Can I delete the archive files from the GPX folder on the Garmin drive to get rid of these?

It is imperative that maps be the same in both BaseCamp and the 660. If you downloaded the latest Europe map for the 660, you should have been offered the option to download it for BaseCamp as well. You have to go back to MyGarmin, and download the map again (available for one year.) This time, make sure you accept to download it for the program as well. I think this functionn is hidden somewhere in «Options» or something. Do this overnight, as it takes a loooong time. Disable all firewall, screen savers, energy savers and such. Nothing must interrupt the process.

If you want to delete routes form the 660, you'll have to delete them manually, under Tools/My Data/Delete routes. If you don't want them to reappear each time you transfer something to the unit from BaseCamp, make sure you delete them as well in «My collection».

The 660 can store 20 routes in memory, but you can have more than that stored on an extra micro-SD card. I think you'll have to copy the .gpx file manually on to the card for that. Then, the 660 will detect them and ask you if you want to import data. Or something like that. And, BTW, I don,t think the micro-SD is supposed to «show» anywhere on the 660. Only when you browse for music, or import some data stored on it will it revel its presence.

Hope it'll help.

Just got back from our trip and the Zumo 660 worked very well. A couple of routes were a little bit 'off', ie it tried to take me down a minor road to cut off a couple of hairpins on the main road, but I just ignored it.

Worked well with the SENA headset as well.
