it IS possible to disable the indicator self-cancel

I'm interested Tonka (patiently waits for the wave of derision :augie)

What year is your bike?

:thumb+1 Me too
I even been noting how long(time and distance) mine stay on for and even tho I left em on to cancel themselves every time apart from MWay type junctions I would ordinairily have cancelled em.
As every thing on the GS is 'puter controlled I am sure their parrameters(sic:nenau) must be tweakable.I would suggest asking the dealer a diff Question like can the duration be extended, not can it be dissabled :D

sorted......

I use the somewhat old fashioned method of not bothering using the indicators at all. It gives too much away and makes me more of a target....to car, van and lorry divers

Are you a black cab driver by day, per chance?

:D

Love this thread, by the way :toungincheek

I got my auto cancel adjusted by Wollaston in Northampton today. Apparently you can't turn it off, but there are a number of options and they've just taken the longest one which seems to equate to about 500m. As far as I'm concerned that's plenty. Mostly I'm going to cancel it before it auto cancels, and I don't have to keep checking all the time to make sure it hasn't cancelled before I want it to, eg half way round a large motorway roundabout.

At the same time they switched the TPC from bar to PSI.

As a motorcyclist for the last 32 years I have no trouble operating the indicators on my gsa and previous gs and rt's. I say that the indicators are not danderous but the self canceling is very bloody danderous. I find that they self cancel at the wrong time ie. too early espically on single lane roads (our n roads maby UK a roads?)when turning right. I find if you signal in plenty of time they will have canceled by the time you reach the junction. You cannot give the button a prod before they cancel because it will not work. JJH
Give yourself a couple more years on th GS and you'll get used to it:D.
You can hold you thumb on the indicator button, and they keep flashing.:rob

No..... Not a cab driver by day cos I can atleast manage more than 50 yards is a straightline....:augie

but I have got an opinion about everything.....:blast

anyway whats the point of indicators if I'm infront they can see what I'm doing....

Yeah it was.
Bear must have been supplied the wrong book.
Thats bloody usefull innit?:blast

Having the wrong book was useful in that it mentioned the more comprehensive tool kit and puncture repair kit I didn't get until I pointed out that they were shown in the handbook but not on the bike. I've never actually needed the hazard flashers but it wasn't hard to guess how to use them. It does raise the question of what else I don't know but might one day want to, either to get the best out of the bike or to avoid childish sarcasm.

Police Riders Handbook require you to put your indicator on at the III

Errr - no it doesn't (well not in my edition anyway).

Just get used to them. Switch them on again if needs be (as per Roadcraft ;) ) . I thought Roadcraft was to get you to think within a system not apply rules brainlessly.

Being a very sad person, I can now time the indicators so the last flash is as I join the slip road. Means I put them on at around 270m I guess (unless of course there is no need at all or I judge they need to go on earlier). I am sure the 30m less warning puts me in greater mortal danger.

As others have suggested the self cancel on the indicators can be adjusted. Whilst my March 2008 GS was in Southport Superbikes this morning for the fuel pump enhancement  I asked them if they could extend the 'on' time. On inspection they found they were set to cancel after 10 seconds, they were able to extend this to the maximum, which is 20 seconds. Whilst they were in there they also set the Tyre Pressure readout to units I can understand, PSI.
Nice people at SSB :thumb2

With me it wasn't so much the indicators cancelling if you were coming off the motorway, it was more on big roundabouts I had problems. There are enough hazards to worry about without having to think about turning the indicators back on. The other day I had someone pull out on me as I went round a rather large roundabout, I'm fairly sure it was because the right hand indicator had just self-cancelled as I was approaching the junction he was coming out of and I think he assumed I was turning off at his junction because the indicator had gone off. I am more than capable of turning the indicators off myself when I've finished using them.

Question ?

My indicators stay on all the time if I am static.

Is this normal, mine only seem to work on distance. Is this another adjustable thing or is the (my !) bike programmed to stop the clock when static ?

09 GSA.

As you managed to switch the indicator on, why not switch it off again when you consider it time to do so?
