I've had 2610 since 2005 ... Like it lots and the support Garmin gave..But now its (map updates) are obsolete!..
I'm looking for a replacement...to travel Spain again this year.. My bro borrowed it to travel Spain last year and said the roads where way out of date now!!

So... My main criteria is being able to plan route on PC.. i.e picking/plotting the roads rather than the destination!.

Is to be the 550.. 660.. Or move to another manuf!?

Unless you are just looking for a reason to justify a new toy purchase, in which case, go ahead, fill your boots, get the brandest newest sparkliest farkley toy that you can get

If the unit is good and the only problem is the mapping, it's simples

I think I bought my 2610 in 2004 and it has been brilliant and I am a bit loathed to change it, but things move on, bluetooth, new mapping, support, etc
After some fair amount of research it's got to be the Garmin 660
Go for it

The screen has gone!.. Had to dismantle and disconnect "touch screen function"... Also searched web for replacement screen to no availe..
Currently using it (in UK) with my remote in pocket.. Which is doable!
However.. I've experienced "moved" roads in Spain... Insofar as routing a nice meandering road on PC only to find it's been upgraded to a "straight" duel carrigeway ... Sooo Updated road maps... Partic in Spain are important to moi...
That said... Its mostly fine in the UK as we don't build new roads like the Spanish do!.. Weelky!!??!!...

Take a look at the Garmin Montana 600, fantastic piece of kit. Does most everything a Zumo 660 does and a whole lot more

The little back roads won't have changed so what's the problem?
The motorways and bypass roads might have been renewed but we don't wanna be on them now do we

I drove from Zaragoza to Valencia using my quest and about 60% of the raods I used were classed as 'off road'

True, I've never listened to a GPS on the bike, always prefered to just look at it so never thought about that!

At the moment it does however come with free UK OS mapping which, when combined with city navigator, is routable. Excelent for finding the best lanes and most scenic routes.

When mine failed I called Garmin to sort out a repair. They said it was obsolete but sold me a 550 for next to nothing, all I had to do was send the 2610 to them.
