Set off today on my 2010 GSA and all of a sudden I got the yellow warning triangle of doom, and "fuel" flashing on the display. All the fuel bars had gone, but the range said 265miles. 5 miles later the range was down to 89. Another 10 miles and it just read -- --. So this means another trip to Rainbow. It's lasted a whole 6000miles
Fortunately I'm in the knowledge that I've only done 170 miles on this tank so got just under a half left, unless of course there's been a fuel thief, my bike's suddenly started doing 15mpg, or I have a fuel monster in the tank. Maybe I should fill up on the way home just to be on the safe side :augie

Sorry to hear that Snerks, you'll have to use the good old mileage button until its fixed. I do as a matter of course anyway.

Good luck

Thanks. Me too. I always know when I get to 300 miles I ought to start thinking about filling up :thumb2

Haha, I'm not even going to tempt fate :thumb

I trust you spotted how my little quip works two ways:

(1) Running out of fuel.... Need to go down hill from now on

(2) Downhill from now on..... Things (as Tony should have said) can only get worse

Good luck with getting the fuel strip thing fixed :thumb2

Mine went exactly the same. Swiched it on, 3 bars showing, then after five minutes bars dropped to nil, range said 275 miles. Thought bloody hell, it's making it's own fuel!!!!!!!!!
Mine is a 2008 GSA 20k miles, and up till now has performed reasonably accurate. Why oh why can't BMW sort this problem out?????
I have a BMW car and that has a very accurate system of telling you what fuel you have in, and pretty well gives a consistent reading of range etc, etc.
I thought that the Motorad, and the Car divisions of BMW worked closely together?
It's so bl#@dy frustrating when you think how much these bikes cost. Clearly the problem has been with the GS for a few years and the newer ones are no better.

I've had little gremlins with my BMW car as well tbh  I thought BMW and BMW motorrad had very little to do with each other actually. Shows what I know :thumb

Admittedly it is poor that things like this happen, especially on bikes of this 'prestige', but it's not that much of a headache to be honest as usually go by how many miles I've done as my MPG is fairly consistent. Now if my trip computer should go then I'm really up sh** creek without a paddle :blast

Yes, a very good play on words. I bet you're really proud of that one ;)

You're not Frasier Crane in disguise are you :augie

Other than the completely different shape of a 1200GS's fuel tank (when compared to a car's) and the angles of lean / slopping around, that is.....

You might be better off asking why BMW don't copy the systems employed by other mainstream bike manufacturers, many of which seem to have fuel gauges that appear to work just fine. As to whether the other manufacturers' are accurate (as opposed to just not working at all) is another matter entirely, of course.

mine ballsed out on my trip round brittany in may, its an 04 so earlier system i guess, it doesn't always show true when tank is full however it is still accurate from halfway down!, i always use the trip meter anyway.

cheers

About bloomin time :pullface mines gone three times :D:D

Best regards Stretch :)

Here's the fix - bolt 2 fuel taps on it that have "ON" & "RESERVE" from an old airhead - sorted.
Alternatively nip down to the local B&Q and purchase a length of 6mm wooden dowl. Mark off a stategic intervals and you've made a handy fuel dipstick !!
God I'm wasted on here :friday:friday

Anybody had this fixed, out of warrant.
How much?

Just had mine fixed @ 99£. had some good will thrown in by BMW (CWs Dorchester good guys) which brought it down to 50£. New one has a mind of its own just to keep me on my toes i think!!!!, still useing the trip as allways.

cheers

I must be lucky (touch wood) 3 GS's all perfect but I still use the trip.... Old habits die hard I suppose.
