For the first time ever (in over 40 years) I opened the garage door, looked at the bike and though "Not today"
Ok Im not a youngster any more but motorcycling is still my reason to work and main hobby. The bike is very good at every thing. I have had no major problems with it but------ I do not feel attached to it. Its almost a bit dull.
I never ride over 100mph. I don't rev past 5000rpm, I don't deck the rocker boxes, I don't pull stoppies. The bike is way beyond my riding requirements.
I have alternated between love/hate on this machine, its just so dull the the back roads I ride 95% of the time.

After looking at a classic bike outing I saw six or seven bikes which I know would bring a smile to my face.
Anybody with a TR5 Adventre spare please contact me.

OK its not the bike to tour Europe on but seeing the number of riders taking the Annual or 6000m service the GS1200 is not used for high mileage by many owners.

Then I say .... Sell it!

I think that unless one has a work bike that fulfils a particular function (courier, commuter), you really need to open yer garage door and look at something that emotionally connects with you.....

I'd have a Ducati 1198 if I could afford it - cos I know I'd open the garage door and go Wow. If it's leaving you a bit non nonplussed, get something else and enjoy it ... :thumb2

You're just sooo in denial .... :D

Giles I got rid of an 1198 for a G's triple black and now the toilet!! Everyone is different!

Yep, my GS was 'sort of functional' but I never actually liked it. In my garage now is a Ducati and a classic BSA Rocket Gold Star. Wow is back.

You're spot on, it IS just a bike.:thumb You've been riding a lot longer than I have, have had many bikes, and come to the conclusion that the GS doesn't stir the soul for you any more. I say, get rid of the GS, and get something that makes you want to ride.:clap

For me, right now, the GS is the perfect bike. I like the performance, the handling, and the technology that it comes with. It does everything that I want it to do, and will go anywhere that I want it to take me. But, I can see the day where I'm done with the GS, and go for something more back to basics. :beerjug:

It won't be for a little while though!:D

Yea, sometimes I get a little indifferent about the GS  , BUT I just did 500+ mls up the west coast of Scotland and back down via the Great Glen and Glencoe........ sorted :thumb2 :D .

yeah.

Sometimes we take things a bit for granted (and if we're honest , maybe a bit spoiled as well) with what we have . Ie , we have a ducati and pine for a go-anywhere GS. Have a GS and pine for a scare-you-silly 1 liter sportsbike ... etc.

at the end , its us. Not the bike.

If you're "bored" of a GS , maybe its time to learn to offroad the thing. That'll scare you silly if you're coming from a road background.

But that 6,000 could be made up of a couple of decent jaunts into Europe.

yeah , agree.

my gs isn't ridden much (as in total cumulative mileage) , but when it is ridden , its usually over longer harder distances.

a high mileage bike may just be someone's daily driver and doesn't really mean anything. Same with highway/motorway mileage , ie droning isn't riding.

Two bikes is a must :)
Yes.
Yin / Yang balance. :thumb
I find that owning a Guzzi makes one appreciate both the old and new. :augie
... Most revealing is that i've kept the Guzzi for 14 years - no other Bike apart from the R100GS lasted more than a year, before i got bored stiff with it.
Only sold the R100GS because of finances.

Coincidentally, I've been thinking about selling my GS (650 twin) for a long while for the same reasons. I've just had a great weekend from Derbyshire to Northumberland on it but it wasn't the bike that made the weekend, it was the people and the journey.
With no big miles planned for the remainder of the year, it'll be for sale on this forum soon.

I have two 250cc trail bikes & each one makes me smile every time they come out to play - it doesn't matter if I'm sticking to tarmac or exploring green lanes, I have a laugh. The downside is they're not suitable for big miles in a short space of time. So sometime next year, I'll still have to replace the BMW.

Getting on a bit................

Yep, I agree with the OP. I got round it by doing a HUUUGE nostagia purchase. 1st piccy shows me as a yoof (and no, its not Tom Cruise :D) on a 1983 Kwak GPZ1100A1

2nd image is what I purchased (name ya price fella, life is too short, don`t regret the things you do in life, regret the things you DON`T do in life..............) from a chap in Plymouth just a few months ago.

Startling facts, to take into consideration if this is any ones solution be it an older bike:

1. Fekk me, how heavy is it? - Your strength deteriorates with age (personally this has been combined with rampaging osteoarthritis :() so think about this.
2. It handles like a sofa - remember the bikes nowadays are amazing in their capabilities and far exceed ours (or at least mine) and the ones we tooled about on where awful, but at the time brill of course :D.
3. BIGGIE THIS ONE - brakes will not work!!!!!!!!!!! (or no where near what we are used to).
4. Where`s the pegs gone?????? - when I first rode the GPZ a few months ago I actually looked to see if someone had knicked the pegs coz I couldn`t find them. Actually I just couldn`t get my legs up high enough.
5. Touring, mmmmmmm - I used to go to wales and back and think `wow` ready for a beer - I went to Barton Bike night recently and thought `wow, I`m ready for A&E :bounce1 bugger, it was painful.

I think my GPZ is wonderful, weapons grade eye candy (its as clean as Nutz bike) I love it to bits but don`t get rose colored glasses - things change, mostly we do!
