JB & Ikkje ride again ….!!!

Today we just mooched about without much of an agenda

We went back up Puy Mary again and carried straight on down the Mandailles valley and over a couple of Cols

Heading towards Aurillac we turned off and over the Col de Bruel and then over Col de Legal towards Fontagnes where we found this church cut into the rock and so we stopped for a look around

Then up the Valle at St Paul des Salers and up over Col de Neronné back to the Auberge at the top, where the owner had a new R1300 GSA and we’d had a good chat with, yesterday

Life on the Col had stopped as they were moving the horses back to lower pasture for autumn

Out in Salers tonight we found something for @Micky - a 2stroke junior version of the mighty CT125 and complete with spare fuel cans

What made you choose that area JB? It looks really nice. 👍

it is, we were there earlier this month. My third visit on a bike. Second for my touring group. Sadly you can no longer ride to the top of Puy de Dome like I did in 1995.
We stayed in La Bourboule in 2017 and Le Mont Dore this year. The latter seems to be popular with the Faux Frog members of this forum pour leurs rencontres.
Lots of people just skip past on the A75 as they head to the Millau viaduct on their must see checklist.

Somewhere, that (like Aerostich suits, Otter Boxes and other ‘must do’ items) that seems to have fallen from favour.
it's all about Potes nowadays, so much so that the place is more like Benidorm each year. Plucky Brit adventurers moaning about greasy food everywhere.

All my own work😊😉🙃, with a little direction from UKGSER and of course @ikkje

Last in the Auvergne, 20 years ago

Now at Ouistreham in a hotel after a 460 mile day ….Knackered (smaller bikes are not good for motorways)

Ferry home tomorrow….but not before at night at the Kilcot Inn (thanks Wapping)

I first went to Potes in 1995 and wouldn’t rush back as there’s a Brit biker on every street corner …..and as for Hotel D’Oso … it’s overrun with them 🤩

I loved Potes, a beautiful place and fortunately the Hotel D'Oso is far enough up the road to keep the "Brit bikers" away from Potes proper. Never saw any, other than us when we were there in 2022.
Anyrode/road, there's nowt wrong with "Brit bikers".....Yarksheer bikers on the other hand .... :augie

:D

That's a helluva slog back JB :bow. Fekk that for a game of soldiers. I couldn't do that, physically or mentally. Any details re breaks taken/ roads etc?

👍

as mentioned, we were in that area and made a similar journey but we had a layover in Saumur, taking a more westerly non-motorway route near Châtellerault

the route above looks like the motorway A71 etc so very much a slog on those bikes

We left Salers in the Auvergne this morning at 7.55am in darkness and got here to Bénouville near Ouistreham at 5.30pm

460 miles or thereabouts and 90% on peage (we meandered down on small roads over 2 days on the way down) after the first 90 mins on minor rural roads to reach the peage near Puy de Dome & Clermont Ferrand

4 brief stops for fuel (small bikes burn through gas @ 125-130 kph) and one coffee and croissant on the go, at lunchtime

It was a slog, as you say….on 600-700cc bikes, but they were perfect in the Auvergne and on the way down over 2 days

Tonight’s accommodation at Benouville, Manoir D’Hastings - 5 mins from ferry and a good stopover
