Jump leads

Had this idea bloody yonks back, got the connectors and forgot about it.

After having to use my 650GS several times to jump another bike and having to take the plastic bits off all the time, I thought of having leads wired directly to the battery with them forklift battery power connectors on the end.

The connector mates with itself (not like that :blast), so can easily pop the seat and grab connector to jump another bike, just plug the 2 bikes together, start, and disconnect.

Could also be used for a battery charger, optimate or acessories.

I can make these by the crate load because of where I work, my job is mainly wiring loom and electro-mechanical assembly.

Anyone interested?

I actually cut my bike jumpleads in half to make a lead with croc clips on it. I'll make up a full set tomorrow at work and get some pics.

I'd be interested to see the connector that you use. I've already done this however as it will only be used in an emergency I simply used insulating tape to wrap the ends. (I must remember that if I ever use this I will need a roll of tape again afterwards).

On my 850 there are a couple of small stainless studs, one is screwed into the engine casing (-ve) and one is fixed just under the power outlet socket, connected straight to the battery (+ve) and covered with a little, removeable rubber cap. I believe they are BMW accessories available just for the purpose of connecting jump leads without removing panels, tanks etc.

Not sure if they are available for all BMs but might be worth a look

Sounds like a brilliant idea. So brilliant in fact that I've had exactly the same setup on mine for the past couple of years. :thumb2
I wish I'd patented it now. :blast

I'll get back early from lunch and make up a set of leads and get pics up later :thumb2

A similar concept is already available from Demon Tweeks:

Not had chance to make a set up today, but I can make them a fair bit cheaper than that.

Reet I have made 2 leads up and have pics of them.

One of them is a battery lead that connects directly to the battery with a 50 amp connector on the end, the other one is my old jump leads on another of the connectors.

I used brown wire for the sample lead as theres a huge reel of the stuff, but if I produced more of them I would buy in reels of red and black extra flex cable along with the tooling and sleeving.

I will make them longer than a metre too, the metre ruler looked plenty long enough, until I cut the wire up.

Another intrested party . You never know . Sods law , Dud battery at Tipp 08 last year . these would have been very handy .

I'm going to fit it to my F650GS once the bloody thing cools down, I swear it's gunna boil one day.

Need some longer M6 bolts for the battery, I'd include them with the lead, cause I'm nice like that :D

The problem with them is you still need a lead. With my one, you just pull the cable out of 2 bikes and connect them together. The connector mates with itself, so to speak, and requires no additional cables to be carried.

I can sell these for far less than that setup costs, and the bike start is useless out on the road as you still need access to a battery to connect the clips to.

These are universal, will connect to any bike battery on any bike and allow jump starting within seconds, don't even have to take gloves off :D.
