Just bought a Vstrom

Dear Mr Arsey.

Even though you buy more bikes each year, than I've ever owned, I have to admire your enthusiasm for each bike you acquire, to spend time and money, fettling it to within an inch of its life, no matter how long you keep it for. :D

Well done!

Tufty
We are all waiting for the day when he goes full circle and ends up with a 1150GS 😂

Yup…..obviously I bought a Vstrom 1050 😜

Fabulously refined v twin motor with perfect fuelling . Great screen and comfortable riding position with a clever seat that can be raised 20mm using brackets stored under pillion seat .

Previous owner didn’t spec heated grips but they’re £400 from Suzuki so think I’ll fit Oxford Evos for 1/4 that .

And that dustbin is going to be replaced by this

Very nice;; not the 800 you was raving about then; is that the French colour's ? and have you any special plans for it other than just enjoy for awhile; :beerjug:

I could be wrong here, but I am going to give it a go....

Bores quickly.
Short attention span.
Needs to be at the mercy of the elements.
Intelligence allows all the above.

Seeks challenges.
Relishes change.
Many wives.
Rarely satisfied.
Seeks risk.

I reckon you would suit being a pilot. :D

I hope your wife enjoys her new ride, if she gets a look in...Does remind me of my DR Big.(y)
I just think he has a self destruct button nestled somewhere in his nether regions?! Lol
Whatever keeps us sane - I guess 🤔
I’m genuinely surprised wifey endorses though?!

Ha ha !
It’s too tall for wife . She still has her F800R but it might be sold soon as she’s rarely working these days so it’s not moved for months , apart from when I’ve given it a spin .

Not impossible . I’ve had a couple of 1150s and loved them .

The 800 is fabulous . Think there’s only two DEs over here and I wouldn’t buy new as hoping they upgrade it with cruise and possibly tubeless for 2026 . In any case I got this 6 month old 650 mile 1050 for less than the price of a new 800 DE.
It’s actually more roomy with a nicer screen and wider seat and the smoothest v twin I’ve ever ridden . Guess they’ve had years to tinker with it .
Plus it’s got cruise and hill hold. Shame the previous owner didn’t fit the Suzuki heated grips . But they’re £320 without VAT and the UA ones were £102 .
Funnily enough the guy who had the 1050 is trying my Himmy today . He’s also the guy who had that Bullet 500 before me . Need to just check with each other in future to save dealer profit 😜

French colours ?
It’s a 2024 UK bike

Corrected for you :rob

And Arsey, enjoy your latest toy. Your local dealers must love you.

Nice bike

How’s the suspension though Martin? Any good or does it need upgrading.

Not ridden it much yet but it’s very compliant . Doubt I’ll be touching it . Suzuki normally set up a bike pretty well .

It’s a bike I’d never considered previously but I do love the colour and it’s obviously related to the 800 with same TFT and similar switchgear .

Bit of a bargain for under £9k !!

The dealer is lovely and she gave me £500 more part exing the Himmy than I was expecting .
I did leave it fully farkled , as that will make it more sellable . Even left the Chigee on as couldn’t be arsed to strip it and remove tank again .

But her part ex price was boosted by all the farkles so we’re both happy .

Pissing with rain here so refitted exhaust with some exhaust sealant and took the baffle out 😜

Vids never do a sound clip justice .

OE exhaust

GR Moto with baffle in

And out

It’s not much louder with baffle out but quite a bit deeper .

Supposedly minor gains according to GR Moto site

I’d never heard of GR Moto but it seems nicely made so happy to leave it on and see how it goes.

The forks on the DL1050 are pretty good. The shock not so. It is fitted with a very soft spring and damping is poor with very little adjustment. I had mine fitted by Luke at T Tech with a YSS shock that was much better and not much £££

Do you want a touring seat for that Martin? I have also got a screen that is excellent but a bit Heath Robinson - might not be up to your standards of fit and finish. Both are advertised on the V Strom UK Forum (y)

Ta but to be honest the standard seat seems very comfortable

Stripped it down today to fit Aoocci C6 Pro, UA heated grips and Healtec Thunderbox.
Absolute bastard to get panels off, not knowing which bit just required a bit of force . Got them off eventually then removed tank

IMG_4820.jpeg

Fitted Aoocci to the bar above TFT but the ball mount had a bit of play in it so unit isn’t 100% solid.
Bit annoying as the same unit mount for Himalayan was fine.
Rather than fuck around , I’ve ordered a Ram jobby instead

IMG_2613.jpeg

Decided not to fit cameras as no obvious place to fit the front and I really don’t need them .
Wired up the Aoocci to Thunderbox then started on grips.
Removed the OE grips then filed down the grooves on the throttle tube to get the right grip on.
Got it done ok.
The left grip is a bastard . I filed down the metal tube with a rasp in my Leatherman but I still can’t get the grip on .
Ran out of time so will go to hardware place around the corner tomorrow and get a better rasp.
Surprised the tube needs filing as the left grip is normally ok and the throttle grip is the bugger to do.
Oh well, didn’t get it done today, which is annoying .
Back at it in the morning .

Looking good might be an eventual replacement for my Africa Twin AS 1100. Always loved a proper V twin.
