I’ve read and heard so many good reports about the Vstrom 650 as a good mid sized adventure bike. I found one today, a pre registered one with no miles on the clock for just over 6 grand.
I bought it. 10 year warranty as well.
Time to farkle it.
Any recommendations re:

Any good sites to buy from,
Best forum
Best accessories.

I did exactly that , when I downsized from this :-
There was a few of the 650 around in the group of people I ride with so they were not strange .
I did exactly what you are proposing to do ,,, set it all up properly as a mini adv bike .
Took it out , started using it ,, but simply could not get on with it at all - 3 months and I sold it on .
I am not a serial “ bike changer “ like some and now tend to keep them quite a long time , so this was unusual for me to buy / sell .
Changed it for the Suzuki V Strom 800 DE ,, which looks similar ,, but is on ANOTHER level altogether .
Sorry I did not use the 650 BEFORE I sorted it all .
Just saying 😀

I had a 2005 as a commuter bike, it was great, I fitted a Nitorn shock and uprated the forks, bloody brilliant little thing, had rear ride height adjuster which helped quicken steering, although no idea what latest ones are like as they have had a few major revisions, my guess is the suspension will still have a lot of room for improvement.

Great bikes .
I’ve ridden one extensively in Gran Canaria two up and in the Andes solo .
Never found it wanting .Suspension was just fine for me , even loaded two up .
I’d ride it a bit before changing too much as you might find it’s a waste of money ‘upgrading’ stuff.
