Hello All
I just got my 1150GS Adventure. Its an amazing bike :bounce1 But then you already knew that.

I have a few questions about intercoms and luggage:
Intercom: I have a Autocom Pro7 and Icom radio for bike to bike.
1. Where do I get a power feed from for the intercom? I only want it live when the ignition is switched on so that rules out the power sockets below the seat and near the speedo because they seem to be permanently live unless I fit a switch in circuit.

2. Can I use the bike to bike radio? The owners manual says radios can have an effect on the ABS?

Luggage:
I have the BMW aluminium panniers. I want to fit a Givi E460 top box and mounting plate but I think the box will hit the corners of the panniers. Has anybody fitted this arrangement? Does it fit or will I have to raise the top box upwards above the panniers?

Can anybody help with the above questions?

Thanks.

Hi Dax,
I use a Kenwood Funkey PMR446 radio on my 2004 R1200GS and my ABS has never missed a beat (touch wood). Its a similar enough system to the 1150 Adventure ABS.

I think someone is waffling to you as my mate uses a Kenwood TK3101 PMR446 radio under the seat of his 2003 GS Adv with no probs.

First off, welcome to the rarified atmosphere of Adventure ownership (they are great aren't they!).

Try some searches in the forums for answers to your questions in more detail (hope you have a few days to spare)!

Short answers are;

Use the horn fuse as a power source. Get a couple of male spade connectors, short bit of wire from each to female spade connectors. You can then remote the fuse to piggy-back onto it without chopping the fuse box about.

I think that's a general disclaimer, (early ABS equipped K's had an interesting habit of setting off the ABS on police bikes when you pressed the transmit button) not an issue otherwise there'd be lot's of reports on this and other sites. Many BMW dealers are also Autocom dealers and will fit the equipment. If there was any conflict BMW(GB) would clamp down quickly.

It's a problem with top-loading panniers. There are ways around it but it depends on what you put on the rear carrier. I carry a large Ortleib bag. To raise it high enough to allow access to my Zegas, I've modified an Al Jesse top-box mounting box. It's actually meant to do what you want, raise the top-box high enough for the panniers to open but it is designed primarily to work with Al Jesse panniers.

Try searching the forums as I suggested earlier. You should find that someone on the forum has found the answers you are looking for already. That's the geat thing about this site, just ask and there is always someone who will/can help.

Just found this picture to explain the fuse thingy!

wot he said !

I've used the fuse piggy-back method to power my Intaride RP1 and PMR radio for about a year without any problems; other than falling off at zero mph, and spending too much money on it, and a bit of a rash .......

I installed an Autoswitch that needed a switched power source.

Not wanting to cut/splice into factory wiring, I used the 8th fuse in the fuse box. Since my Autoswitch resides within the BMW fuse box, I simply fanned out the about 1" of wire strands, placed them over the rear blade of the fuse and pushed the fuse back into its socket. Voila, switched power and fused on top of it.
