Hi folks, greetings from a new owner in Northern Ireland. I have a CBF 1000 ABS which is a brilliant bike , went from home to south spain on it last year, but its getting heavier as I get older so I started to think about a lighter bike. Went to get a test ride on a F650 Gs, (short legs so the F800 is out of the question,) and came home disappointed as my local dealer did not have a demo!. Thought I would go to Jefferies in Leeds and was telling a mate who spread the word and I ended up being offered an 2008 model in red with 1400 miles by another biking friend whose wife had it. I bought it and went to see about getting it serviced at the BMW dealer who were helpful and advised that it was due a new fuel sender and chain and sprocket set under recall and that they would do this when I left it in for service. A few weeks later all was done. Now I had been using it to commute and found it easier in the traffic compared to the Honda and I was getting 67 mpg without trying and that is a lot better than the Honda, happy days, BUT there was a hell of a rattle , slap , chatter whatever from the drive chain despite adjusting it to the tighter limit. I put it down to the dodgy chain and hoped it would disappear when the chain was replaced. Well new chain fitted and still a bit of slap but not so bad, however the chain adjustment as left by the dealer is tending to the max and i will need to tighten it in a few miles. From the forum it would appear that this is a problem and it really irritates me. I notice a plastic guide or rubbing strip along the top of the swinging arm , would that be the problem and has anyone removed them to see if that sorts things by providing a clearance? Have not sold Honda yet! . Otherwise the bike is great, I have fitted Givi pannier frames still to get the panniers and reckon it will be OK for touring albiet at a slower pace than I might do on the Honda! Brian
