Just ordered one...

Congrats !

It is a great bike and I hope you love it as I love mine

I am 7K in and it gets better and better

Happy new bike.
I had a sit on one a few weeks ago at the Jersey Big Ride out. Quite impressed. 2018 is going to be a big birthday for me so I hope to buy my first ever new bike. At the moment it's between a 1000XR and a GS WC triple black. I will be interested to see if the XR is developed between now and then.

Jersey Neil, don't wait till 2018 mate ... today !

You can't really go wrong with either bike. The Luggage attachments are fugly on the XR, I couldn't bear to look at them !
The R1200GS engine and gearbox don't compare with the XR though !
I still "wince" when changing gear from 1st to second (R1200GS) , it sounds like a guy has swung a lump hammer into the side of the engine .

Have you ridden the KTM 1290GT ? That could be the bike you need ? A blend of R1200GS and S1000XR...( imho superior to the BMW offerings)

(Ps I ride at night quite a lot, the LED headlight (GS) is phenomenal, it's not available on the XR or KTM)

I've fitted HID's on my XR, and they've solved the only niggle I had about the bike.:thumb

I've had RT's, many GS's including the WC, and am now on an XR.
The engine is sublime, the handling is the best I've ever known, it's the most fun I've had with my trousers on!
Oh and I have the fastest colour of course (white).
Feckin brilliant bike.

Always brings a chuckle whenever I walk in the garage and its sat there all innocent, but I know what lies beneath!:green gri

.

Totally agree, apart from the colour - mine's red!:). Had an RR before but realised I was too old for it. The XR ,on the road but obviously not on track,is basically an upright RR which you can ride for miles without getting neck or wrist ache. I don't have any vibe issues on mine either

:beer jug: excellent ....Perfect bike now. Enjoy ..

Yep, they're brighter than the LED's on my mates Tracer.:D

I still wonder why BMW didn't fit LED headlights to the XR.:nenau

Its on the drive. Fantastic machine, can hardly wait to finish running it in

So, what accessories are you going to fit? You can spend a fortune on stuff for this bike (like I have!:D).

My mate's new RT doesn't have them either , baffling. I see Yamaha are "catching up" and have LED's on many new designs.
