K1100rs

They're heavy, cumbersome, and fearfully expensive to run - even more so if it's been neglected.

Exhausts fracture at the 4 into 1 join. Discs fall apart, calipers sieze, inlet airleaks, clutches fail at low mileage, valves burn out ( especially exhaust on number 2 cylinder), all the cams have to be removed to adjust valve clearences, forkseals leak usually the stanchions worn, ABS claps out, thirsty, exhaust studs snap in the cylinder head, head gaskets fail etc etc.

And the K1100 seems to struggle to get past 70k miles with out a huge bill for something. And they never run sweet after some miles have been racked up.

Nothing like a K100 or K75.

Mmmmm, might be the reason it's cheap then.

Are they really that bad or are you just giving me the worst case scenario info. They do seem to be fairly plentiful on the road.

Just wondering as it's so cheap it might still be worth a punt as a getabout.

Thanks for you honesty tho.

What a coincidence - I'm servicing a K1100RS today.

It's nothing like the usual heaps i get to work on - it's actually very nice, 30K miles. But heavier than i remembered. I use dto have a K1100LT, with RS wheels - Excellant bike, but i sold it at 40K miles. While it was still running nice :D

I do have to ask though.
At 600 quid, isnt a 94 bike with 50 on it worth a punt????
It only needs a mirror to put it back on the road....

It's not a lot of money if it goes well - who knows you might have a decent bike :nenau

Surely the same old buyer beware caveat applies, you may indeed get a steal, or you may get robbed. Also if it's just the mirror glass that needs replacing fair enough, if it's the whole mirror/indicator pod then that'll be one hundred and a bit of your English pounds please
