My mate has taken delivery of a 2015 spec GS with the keyless ignition. Looks very neat but the problem is that only one key with transponder was issued apart from the back-up plastic key. Now given that there can be a time when the key gets lost or the battery goes flat how the hell are you going to start the bike with no normal keyhole? Is there a trick to the thing to start it with the key and not the transponder. He has asked the question and the lads at the dealership has no answer. He hasn't read the manual either :blast but as far as we can tell after a look around the bike is that the only thing the plastic back-up key is worth for is by opening the boxes or taking the seat off. Is there some tosser out there who has figured it out?

Must say his bike looks really good with the white plastics and black engine.

Plastic Key on Kawasaki 1400 GTR could be held against headstock and would allow ignition key to be turned on. Bike starts no problem. I always carried plastic key fastened to inside pocket of my jacket, also always had a spare transponder battery about my person as well. Four years of owning GTR and had no issues with keyless ignition.

Now that's a real technological advance - keyless ignition that means you have to carry TWO keys!!

:blast

It worked for me and was and still is standard fit on the Big K And now four years later BMW have found another option to charge customers for.

FFS you need to keep well away from the keyless ignition systems they are a nightmare on the K16 …cause so much problems ….

The clue is in the OP. If your mate reads the manual, he will see that you hold the key up to the rear wheel arch, and the bike will start.

Bloody technophobes.

Couldn't agree more.....:thumb

I remember riding bikes that didn't have ANY SORT OF KEY at all !!.....You kicked it over, it ran, then you used a decompressor to stop it....:rob

Mind you, the bikes were utter crap.....:D

Ha ha as a kid I used to ride mopeds without brakes just decompress to slow it down only the odd farmer :forry or dog walker to bypass :green gri
