Anyone idea how long the battery lasts in the key fob? Also what happens if something goes wrong? I have as part of my key set a small plastic key with a groove down the middle, a metal one with the same grove and thats it. Always nervous when I go on a longer trip that something goes wrong with the key fob and I'm stranded. Any advice?

I changed mine after about 18 months but will vary I'm sure with use of the bike. If you have the tft screen fitted then you will get low battery warnings and possibly reduced key functions. If it bothers you just carry a spare quality battery.. Duracell or similar. Don't bother with cheap batteries from your local pound shop they're a waste of money....

Even if the battery runs out totally, you can still put the key fob next to the antenna under the rear mud guard to start the bike.

Personally I've had issues with Duracell batteries in my fob - dodn't last long - spoke to my dealer and Varta are recommended in preference, swapped to a Varta and that's been in about 15 months no issues (so far).

+1 on Duracell button batteries not lasting long in a couple of different use cases.

Another thumbs down for Duracell. My Skoda car remotes wouldn't work at all with them, even though they showed 3v when tested so swapped to panasonic that were OE and have had no problems since.

Mine tend to last about 18 month but i tend to change them every 12 months just to be sure. I use Panasonic batteries and have never had a problem but i make sure I'm buying genuine from one of the online battery suppliers. I keep the plastic key in my wallet ( a zipped compartment) in case its needed in an emergency.

Wasn’t just a fluke then, when my original battery failed I replaced it with a Duracell, first one showed 50% on the dash, swapped it again and seemed ok and failed on first ride.
Bought a couple of Energizers and has been fine since.

I've had mine for 3.5 years and just put the second Duracell in the remote - only replaced as the screen said I had less than 50 per cent battery left.

I use Duracells and they have been OK, however these were bought from a reputable source. In previous years I've bought Duracells from Amazon or eBay and some of these didn't last a week before showing 50%, nor did they last long in my garage key fob, I suspect they were rip-offs.

Could well be it, who knows. Pretty sure these were genuine , said Durrasell on the packet.

:jes

You couldn't tell the difference between the package I bought and the ones sold in Sainsbury's, everything look identical, i.e. the way they were packaged, stickers on each battery, and the fonts used in the text both on the package and the battery. I think the dodgy pack I bought off Amazon was a pack of 6, all well within date, and they all failed in a short period of time.

I've had the same experience as tebor

I never buy batteries off Amazon or eBay now, always off a reputable shop on the high street. You will pay more but, in my experience, you are getting what you paid for

My 1600 flashes up a warning when the fob battery is low, in just the same way that my car does with its key and Vodafone does when the tracker fob battery is low.

My new 1600 is telling me that the key fob battery is currently at 50% but that it’s nothing to worry about, or words to that effect. It seems to flash up automatically.

As to batteries? I carry a spare one in a pouch on the key ring for my ‘keyless’ bike. I keep my U-lock key and tracker fob in the same pouch. The black pouch (I have several) I bought in France from a street market; haggle to get a discount. It looks something like this:

I just buy batteries off Amazon or from a local shop and the world hasn’t stopped.

I just got the 50% warning on the TFT this morning.

It's my first time replacing the key battery and I used one from a fresh Tronic brand (Lidl) blister pack. I have found these to be reliable in the past in other devices. However, these things are bloody well sealed now in the blister pack, each battery is hermetically sealed in and no joking the most difficult part of the entire operation was extracting the new battery from it's packaging, I even managed to cut my finger in the process, :), extracting the old battery from the key and replacing it was a doddle in comparison!

It's to stop kids opening them to eat.

Got my bike Jan 2023, and last week I got the "under 50%" battery warning on the TFT. So, I stuck a replacement battery in to my jacket for when the key does stop working. Then I'll change the battery and hopefully just ride on.

Of all the potential issues on a bike the battery in the keyfob is the last thing on my mind lol

Just carry a spare.
But just for fun, take the battery out completely and give yourself confidence, by starting the bike by putting the key on the flat rectangular bit under the rear mudguard.

After that sleep like a baby..... not while riding of course, thats a bad idea 👍
