Hi
Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with 1250 keyless fuel cap lock.
I have just had the unit replaced after it failed twice.
Cannons tell me it’s a rare fault but the SOS bike delivery guy , with the same bike , when he delivered it back , told me his failed and he has picked up several with the same problem.
He demanded a keyed version , and got it.
When I asked I was told they don’t fit , but obviously the same cap that fitted the pre keyless 1200s.
Told them if it fails again, I want a keyed cap.

Many have had problems, just back the screws of a tad they may be over torqued, can you trust a dealer.

No , they said the unit was faulty and replaced.

There wasn’t a problem with the 1200 as far as I’m aware.

Interesting. When I collected mine on Sunday the sales lady couldn’t get the cap to close at all with the “press down firmly on the fuel filler cap” technique. She then tried bumping it a bit harder, then harder still, all to no avail. There was no “give” at all, it was up against something solid.

Suggested lifting the release lever whilst pressing the cap down gently and that worked a treat. Used that technique again a few days later when filling up and all OK. Is closing the cap the problem you (and others) were having?

I was shown by the sales person to lift the flap to shut the fuel cap.

I had one replaced within 4 days of having mine delivered

Some one posted the other week about this on here ...go to the search column....one issue is the bolts are torqued too tight, especially if you have fitted an after market ring adapter to take a tank bag. These is a technique to opening and closing

Post 6 DC exactly what I was trying to explain, but must admit as long as I pull on the flap first and then close it, and then let flap go down, never had a problem, dealer told me the problems are because this method is not used, and it knackers the fuel cap, must admit it is piss poor because if the dealer does not show you, and in the manual it just says push the fuel cap down, shows nothing about holding the flap up, another stupid thing if they just got somebody to look at their manual and added this little tip. :beerjug:

I think the dealers are talking rubbish. The latch that goes into the recess at the front of the filler cap is spring loaded and chamfered on the underside, so is designed to automatically retract as you press down on the filler, and should then spring back out into its recess to latch the lid closed. It therefore does not need to be retracted with the tab, though of course this will do no harm other than maybe more wear on the tab hinge.

The problem with being unable to lock it comes when the filler cap will not close sufficiently flush for the latch to enter its recess. The reason for that seems to be that it is obstucted by another part of the locking mechanism not being in the right place.

My new GSA has the keyless filler cap, but if it goes wrong it will get changed for a racing style one above. Fuel theft here relates to central heating oil.

Same problem last Thursday (coincidentally bike also from Cannons). Phoned dealer for advice and suggested I pop It in for them to have a look at. ‘It’s a bit tricky. I’m in the middle of Belgium and need fuel’. Luckily had a Torx set in my panniers and managed to loosen the fittings enough to get the fuel flap up. Same problem all weekend.
Got home, tried to see if I could fix it and dropped the Torx bit in my fuel tank.
F@#k my life!!!

Yep, mine was tight to close too, before it wouldn’t open at all .

Good advice re torx , as my worry was being stuck at a French fuel station on a Sunday and can’t get the cap open !!

If you remove the two leading bolts, on the ring, the filler cap opens, simples when you know!
