Mine didn't on a RT. I took the bolts out to fit a tank bag ring and the cap didn't open.
But off to have another look, might have been a fluke and missing a good option if the cap gets stuck . Also I just push it shut, not using the tab and it works fine, dealer never told me anything about using the tab when locking it. Unless of course the RT has a different cap.Ok, you are absolutely correct, the front bit of the ring holds the latching bit, so if the bolts are removed the cap would open, good tip
