I might be getting a new bike with keyless but I'm not convinced

Advantages
Doesn't scratch the top yoke.
You can't walk away from the bike leaving the key in the ignition (overnight...:drool.)

Disadvantages
You can't leave a spare key secreted on the bike for the time you lose your keys away from home.
If you drive away from home leaving the key behind, you're screwed if you stop.
More things to go wrong.

Any others please?

Thanks, Dave

Owners of Range Rover and some other expensive cars with keyless are being targeted by thieves, because they are easier to nick. I know bikes are easy enough to nick anyway, but my concern was insurance companies getting spooked and putting up premiums on keyless bikes.
I had it on my Harley, and liked it well enough, but didn't choose it on my GS.

best upgrade for me..im a twat for losing keys and fumbling at filling stations, its brilliant

I think that this is an "extra" too far.

What do you do if you are going on a ferry? How do you set the alarm NOT to go off when the boat starts moving? Do you have to scroll down through the computer and reset the defaults and then go in again and reset them when leaving the boat?

The ring around the ignition key failed on a previous bike and there was a work around. What is the work around for this if this fails?

As usual this is all OMO

One press of the keyfob to lock the bike, two to arm the alarm and three to run off the motion sensor for ferries etc, that's on an RT so I assume it is similar on a GS/GSA. You can always leave the alarm completely off on a ferry too, nobody is taking it anywhere! Plastic spare key can be used to unlock and start the bike if you follow the instructions in the manual, the RT and GS/GSA work slightly differently in this respect.

Given the choice I would spec keyless on any bike.

Keep the spare key/fob in your jacket.

Don't know if it's possible with BMWs system but on Harleys it's possible to enter a code to override the alarm and start the bike.

On ferries leave key/fob on bike if you can't be bothered to disable the alarm.

One of the better options, and no problems with mine.:thumb

Disregard any opinions from people that don't have it.;)

I just see it as being the answer to a problem which doesn't really exist.

Companies seem to be compelled to offer the latest "innovation" to maintain or gain market share........... Can't wait to see the first 10-bladed razor :blast

Keyless ignition is the same - I feel.

Keyless and central locking on my RT, love it and wouldn't buy a bike without it again.

Also love shift assist and many of the other features of the RT.

I don't actually have to experience a broken leg - to know that it is going to hurt like fcuk.

Al:D

I can't argue with that!:D

But ride a GS or RT with keyless, and you'll see the benefits.:thumb

No I still don't see the benefit of keyless ignition, central locking and shift assist. Just more to go wrong

this sums it up nicely

I had the option of keyless but didn't bother ….but after speaking with lots of owners who did bother i now wish i had . It was "trialled" on the K16 last year and they had issues, All sorted now though for the RT …go fer it !

I tried it on the multistrada but then bought a used RT LC with everything but keyless, also added a basic small topcase so I have another excuse to use the key.

I think I can leave without it, out of curiosity do you need a key to refuel or that is also keyless?
