Keyless ride

Leaving the key on the bike is very risky and if the bike were to be stolen with the key in the pannier then your insurance will most likely be void.

The first thing the insurer asked for when my bike was stolen was a photo of both keys.

What a palaver, for a previously simple solution to activating your motor vehicle

Simple Key and ignition = start/lock your vehicle and worked for decades

Now you have to lock your keyless transponder whatsit in your pannier, in another special metal box (which you had to buy) or tinfoil and then take a joe bloggs normal pannier key on your wet outdoor activity

Keyless seems a waste of time

It's not an option I would have gone for had I bought the bike from new, but actually now that I've got keyless I think if I was ever to be lucky enough to order a brand new bike I would probably spec it again. It's just another example of a day to day labour saving thing that 99% of the time is great, but we don't actually need and can easily manage without. I might change my mind after the next surfing holiday though..............

Unless you forget your key in the ignition................:D

... or leave it in a pannier box or seat lock, or twist it out of shape using the seat lock.

... or snap it off in a fuel cap lock.

... a guy I knew left his key in an open top box while he faffed about... another guy squeezed past his bike and bent the key right back.

Keys are a PITA. I love my keyless.

Not a thing I would pay for, all my vehicles have keys

That's the way I like it

Keyless = Joyless..................and on a GSA you still need keys for the alloy boxes, so where's the benefit???

You lot just follow what the manufacturer's tell you is good for you and pay them extra for Keyless too, just like TFT - they have to put clocks on a bike - so they charge you £600 more for TFT on something that probably cost BMW less than £50 to buy from China

My F Pace has the perfect accessory for this scenario. Shame it’s not available on a bike.

The key is left inside the vehicle and you have a wristband like a Fitbit.

You touch it on the J of the rear name badge and it immobilises the key and locks the car.

The wristband is waterproof etc

Well no, that's a blinkered view.

I would have requested keyless.

Riding through winter in the rain, cold and crap I hate having keys and unpredictable locks. Keys become an inconvenience.

I'd much rather bury my keys in a waterproof jacket pocket and leave them there safe and dry.

Dont need them for steering lock, or fuel cap, or ignition.... great.

If you put a spare contactless credit card in your Klim wrist pocket... you dont even have to take your gloves or helmet off to pay for fuel. So you stay warm and dry.

I love Contactless as well....

Maybe keyless panniers will be the next BMW hype.............;)

Yeah, but in defence of JB he lives in Yorkshire. Chip & PIN has only just made it up there and is being fervently resisted as a cheque book is still seen as de rigour for paying for anything over a fiver.

All pointless and unnecessary

A fiver is a good night out in those parts

I proudly use my cheque book weekly and refuse to give it up, makes the banks do something for their squillions

Cheque books are great:bounce1:bounce1
