I have no problem supporting someone in the group who has fewer resources than the rest, if it's something we're aware of up front. Someone sponging just because they can is a different tin of trout, though.

We always just split the bill equally. On the odd occasion that someone buys the 2000€ bottle of wine then that’s their problem - even if they shared a bit. The larger the group the smaller the discrepancies in general although I’m not keen on large groups. Hey ho, go with the flow!

Edit: Having read a bit more of the thread I would say that when we go out we get a couple of beers somewhere so we have a rota, then we find a restaurant split the bill) then one of us buys a round of drinks on the way home. Usually works out. Coffee stops much the same one of us pays then next one and so on…..

Splitwise where it makes sense, split the bill where possible. One benefit of Splitwise is you don't need to carry much/any cash - pay for everything by card and let Splitwise figure it out for you at the end of the trip and settle up via bank transfer.

Oh and the whole double up on petrol stops is fucking bullshit. Bikes drink petrol at different rates and stopping at different times totally fucks things up. Just fill your own fucking bike up and pay your own bill.
