Hello Chaps,

Iv`e just finished doing a spline lube on my 1150, and whilst I was in there I changed the slave cylinder and as per Steptoes recomendation fitted the S/S adventure hydraulic clutch hose. All seemed to go well and I had no issues lining everything back up, so far so good, But.. now when I turn the back wheel I can hear a rythmic knock coming from either the back of the gearbox or the area of the first U/J. If I turn the wheel in both directions less than 1 revolution the timing of the knock is constant/ in the same place. So before I pull everthing apart again has anyone any ideas what could be causing this?

What`s confusing me ( Easily Done! ) is that I don`t recollect hearing this noise before I started, and the gearbox and the first driveshaft joint haven`t been touched?

Thanks,

If you are hearing this while the bike is on the centerstand, I think it's OK. You would also hear it if the engine was running in neutral and in 1st gear.

If you can hear it while riding at low speed, it would be a problem...

Dan.

Did you "phase" the UJs when you reassembled?.
Try removing the brake caliper from the wheel and try again.
Any play in the big bearing or paralever bearings?.

Canbus fluid level too low.

Brake caliper already off, no play in rear end, new paralever bearings fitted last summer, but checked and greased again just to be sure. ghiribizzo, I tried to align the joints as best as I could and have even removed the final drive and refitted 90 degrees out! just to make sure. same noise?

Udders, :blast Of course why didn`t I think of that :pullface.

Dancata, I havent started /ridden the bike since I began, I thought it best to ask first, but I`m considering a totter about tomorrow just to see if I can hear it on the road.

Any more ideas?

Thanks,

:) :) :)

Been in the garage tonight and put FD back to normal phasing, I can never get it really aligned spot on but as others have said before even the new indexed drives don`t line up perfectly. Paralever bearings adjusted and locked up, wheel back on, no brake caliper, spin wheel, dull knockety knock knock, roughly 3 times every wheel revolution. FD ratio is 2.8 to 1 so I`m thinking first UJ has gone and I`m looking at an expensive strip.
Then I decide to run the engine in first gear and see what I can hear.
Up through the gears to 3rd ( nice & steady like virtually no throttle and feathering the clutch ) Stop engine and turn the wheel by hand..............Nothing, no noise, no thumps bumps or knocks! Perfectly quiet.

The only thing I can think of is that when I had the Gearbox on the bench to check the splines and I had it moving around I have shifted the gears or selectors in the tranny, running it must have put everything back into it`s proper position? Anyway I`m a happy bunny, Thanks to those that offered help.

Cheers,

Did you make sure the UJ had seated on the snap ring?

Yep, tapped it home with a rubber mallet, the final drive end that is, not the front joint. I didn`t remove the front U/J at all it just sat in the shaft tunnel.
