'63 plate GSA 1200 , dealer fitted with BMW LED aux front lamps . Started the bike to return home after a ride today and the Lampf warning came up and also noticed that the lamp in the aux. light switchgear had also gone out . Had a look and both the dip and aux lamps were out . Not a problem as it was daylight so fitted new dip bulb when I got home and hey presto all the lights now work . It struck me that had the dip bulb blown when I was scooting done some backlane it total darkness that the sudden total loss of illumination might not be a good thing . Is this loss of aux lights when the headlight bulb goes normal or have Vines wired them wrong do you think ? The older bulb type aux lights always stayed on after a Lampf failure so I assume the wiring may be different for the LED's ?

I'm thinking it may be possible that when the dipped beam blew, it failed in such a way that it tripped an "electronic fuse" in the CANbus (filament melts, leading to a short circuit with very high current drain). Rebooting the CANbus once the failed bulb had been removed allowed the "fuse" to reset?

wiring is the same for the led lamps, its just the lamps and the end connectors that are different.my guess is as above that when dipped failed it tripped the can bus and or your aux lamp switch has failed as well which is not uncomon.dont know how you could poss blame vines:D:D

I think the standard BMW aux lamps work via the canbus and are not switched from the feed to the head lamp, one assumes the control unit only knows the headlamp is on by the fact it has current through it (this is the same system that flags up a lampf if the bulb fails), therefore if the head lamp does blow, the control unit thinks the lamp is off and cuts the feed to the aux lamps switch

if I am right it does present a 'no lights' syndrome which on the face of it seems a bit dodgy - maybe another GSA owner can confirm if the same has happened to them?

When my dipbeam went on my 2008 lampf showed but the driving lights still worked.

+1, my '08 GSA was the same and main beam also works when dipped had failed. All lights should work independently under CANBUS control.

Mine is a 2012 GSA with aux lamps also fitted by dealer. Whilst on holiday last week my dipped beam bulb went and I also lost aux lamps, just like Pierre. It was also daylight but was filtering through a stau on the autobahn so wasnt great to have no lights on the front. Think its also illegal in some countries not to ride with a front light on, even in daylight. Changed the bulb and all back to normal. Presumed it was how canbus worked but not ideal

Last time my dipped beam failed during a journey, I used the OE fog lamps as a substitute until it was convenient to fit a new bulb.
