LC gear change pro problems?

The point of the gear change pro is that it does everything you can but quicker, smoother and dare I say it with more fun! Don't believe me? Then go and have a trial run on a 'bike with it fitted!

As for riding a 'bike properly, I used to cadence brake, but now I have abs. Technology moves on and so does my riding, so now I ride properly using all the gimmicks I have decided to purchase. Embrace change Mr dinosaur.

Tried it twice, one , a half day. Second, a full day. Didn't give me any improvement in gear changing over my bike. In fact frequently it was worse. As for the fun element, why is it fun to do nothing ?. just don't get it.
As for your comment re ABS, if your using it then you most definitely aren't riding properly. The only time my ABS system is used is on a moving brake test to deliberately activate it.
I'm hardly a dinosaur. I embrace improvements. Not change just for the sake of it which usually at great cost.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again. Its a shame many of you cannot ride a bike properly and have to rely on gimmicks. I can change gear up and down on my bike with no problem at all. I JUST USE THE CLUTCH.
i can even do clutchless changes both ways on my bike using nothing more than personal skill and good hearing for throttle balance.

you obviously weren't riding it properly.

With over 50 yrs of riding I can only say that I'm having the best riding of my life with the new bikes, OK the traffic is a lot more but even that can be good for those like me who like nothing more than chasing white van man round the periferique ;-).......Each to is own.
I learn't to ride on a ex post office BSA Bantam which I remember fondly (not in a pervie way) Would I want to be riding it now instead of my RT with Gear shift, ABS, ESA, Sat Nav......Like I said "each to he's own"

Personally i think BMW should spend more time making a good quality product rather than gimmicks which add complexity and cost. At the end of the day BMW are relying on people buying new bikes and I will stick with my 2012 RT until i see some improvement in quality - or look at a different brand.

I agree with this, if I swap my 2013 RT I wouldn't be bothered about gear shift and central locking. But I'll be trying the RS at the bike show.

Its interesting how tech on bikes can provide such passion and argument. The problem I see is we all see things sightly differently and so our priorities are so different. When I came to buy my RT LC I had a good look at the extras which I thought I wanted. I read test reports and of cause had two test rides one solo and one with the Missus. When I read about hill start my first reaction was "What a waste of time -showroom gimmick ". Then I started riding with a pillion and soon realised that two up with luggage hill start would actually be quite useful. Do I use it all the time ? No. When I'm riding on my own I do not need it but with Missus on board its bloody useful. Gear shift pro, central locking I did not go for but I guess if you have it you like it. Riding modes ? Pissing down over the weekend and its the first time I put the bike into Rain mode from Dynamic. Was it useful ? Don't know I use the throttle in the correct amounts for the conditions so for me I think its another gimmick. Keyless waste of time adds complexity for little benefit. I have it on my Multistrada and still think its not worth the money. However that is my opinion only. The point I'm trying to make is that all this tech is not really necessary but if you have it you like it and it does not mean your a numpty and if you do not have it then it does not mean your a riding god. So girls stop the bickering

The main reason why this debate has arisen is not to do with the pros and cons of technology but more to do with Stever1 claiming that those who have these 'gimmicks' need them because they cannot ride properly.

Well, the solution is very simple - if the technology scares you, don't buy one, then.

i think good old stever's got a point with his slightly tongue in cheek post..when giving the lc the big un chasing mates on s1000rr's etc on the twisties i hardly use the clutch going up or down and it is a skill and very satisfying when you get it right, but applying the same input with the gearshift pro will be a even better ride ill let you know when my new LC comes back from the painters

Shift assist (quickshifter) changes gear 4x faster than a blink of the eye, i doubt very much you can replicate that .

An update. Took the 'bike back to dealers and they conformed that the Pro-shift was not working, faulty switch. Just had new one fitted and now works like it used to - brilliant. But on my trip into the dealers I noticed that the menu switch was playing up, couldn't change screens. Dealer noticed it too and suggested that the switchgear needed replacing, maybe do it the same time as the right hand switchgear as there is a 'recall' due because of a potential fault with the kill switch. Seemingly the kill switch can get stuck in the 'Kill' position; personally I never use the switch, just use the key. Just have to wait for the switchgear to come in as there is a delay on getting them in! Expensive 'bike, bloody cheap switchgear - WHY?

Now I have an older ('11 plate) TC and had problems with the LH switchgear causing the cruise control not to work. Sorry Steve 1, but this is really useful on long rides to get the blood flowing back into the right hand.
Anyway, they changed both left and right switchgear outside of warrant as it was a recall item. The RH was OK, but who am I to argue!
The RH kill switch stuck on me last Saturday a very long way from home and I was lucky to get it going, so it looks like this problem is not just limited to the LC's.

One thing I do agree with Steve 1 over is I think for what they charge, BMW should get their act sorted out for the crap switchgear they fit - never had problems on any other bikes (apart from MG, Aprilia - Italy and electricity do not go well together)
