£41600 based on a 40 hour week. £15 an hour would be £31200.
Wrong Bob. Not total crap but fact. Might have changed recently due to more condition based servicing but it was definitely 100% the case in the past. If you want proof, look at the recommended life of cam belts between the various makes and also between different markets.

Cambelt replacement intervals have always been about risk management. If such things were set by engineers they might be different, as it is they are set by marketing men. For each market they weigh up the risks involved in the service intervals and make judgement according to conditions in that market. So no surprise that different makers/importers take different views. And that is all looking at such recommendations proves.

I'd just worked out that £25/hr for a forty hour week was a rather handsome £52,000 per annum.I think I'll stop filling bottles and become a bike fitter.
I very much doubt any technicians in a BMW Motorrad dealership earn £40k per annum, as an employee

it would but a tech in my case got paid a timed rate which no man could service a gs/a
ie 4 hours to fit clucth
takes about 8 with abs and 4 without
so you can lose hours per day
just my view as i worked at chester bmw and never got full hours per day
wty work you get 6.50 ph
again timed some u win alot you lose
rear pads in my veiw have nothing to do with services
as most of the bike i see do more than 12k on rear pads
and dont get me started on annual service

why do think i do what i do
I know I'm probably going to upset a lot of people but here goes........ why shouldn't a fully trained technician earn in the region of 40K (only £20/hr). Most vehicle technicians (Truck,car,motorcycle) serve an apprenticeship/training and then have to invest a considerable amount of money on tools, they will have to have further training with new models/technology. Do the people who complain about servicing cost also complain about what electricians and plumbers get paid (most likely). I think we need to look at what we get paid and then make comparisons. I have a friend who was a HGV fitter and gave that up to drive a car transporter for Fords, he earns about 65k a year, what does he need, a driving licence and a tacho card.
I can't understand the logic of spending thousands on a bike (or car) then moan about spending a few hundred on servicing.

There was a position offered for a Senior Technician with a salary in excess of 30K.
Add on the Nat Ins all the other bullshit and you are not far off.

When Crapaud backs up his anecdotes with some facts then I will happily accept it. But the fact is that Audi/VW/Skoda have been running either condition based servicing or mileage based servicing for a good 6-7 years now, which renders his initial claim as nothing more than an anecdote from the past of how things might have been.
