Thunder, this is where I have got to with my cafe racer project.
Have done no mechanical work just experimented with getting the look right. Being a mono means it is easy to make the rear look clean. Have added 60mm to the shock to lift the back up. Paint scheme with be black. On hot airheads thread there is a silver cafe that I like, the wheels are black with the spoke edges returned to alloy.
At this stage the clip ons will contact the tank and I will have to have both legs removed to use the footpegs
I am just bolting things on to see how and where before doing any structural changes.
Mate Dave keeps mentioning classic racing when he sees the R80, maybe.........

It's fun isn't it.
Looks like you've got the makings of a cracking bike there, look forward to hearing how it progresses.
In my case as I said I did not intend to get started until next year, but unfortunately I made the mistake of taking the bodywork off for a closer look and next thing I new things had got out of hand.
Bit of an update for those following the thread or who call in by wistake.
Heads are still away to have hardened valves fitted and be fettled by Steve Scriminger, barrels will go back on shortly after fitting new piston rings and stainless steel push rob tubes both of which arrived this week along with a number of other parts including stainless filler plugs for the engine and rear drive.
Picked up an early model BMW alloy fitler box and enine cover which after some advice from an ex moderator of this parish is being fitted to improve air flow together with a Green cotton air filter which I picked up in a clearence sale.
Rear sub frame, crash bars and some other parts went off to my friedly loal powder coaters, frame was fine and had been coated by the previous owner but some of the bits had got the odd chip and mark. Got them back this morning so took some time to refit them together with the newly acquired Lester alloys and a drum brake bevel box for lower geaaring.
Wheels were shod this afternoon with a new pair of Brigestone 45's, I ditched the original tyres as they were old enough to legally buy a drink in a bar and had seen better days.
Bevel box is a 37/11 ratio compared to the bikes original 33/11. RS was geared for a top speed of 120 mph and to be honest this is not what I'm after. The lower gearing should make things interesting on the acceleration front and keep the bike on the powerband in real world riding. Box came from a60/6 with 33k on it so no wear on the cogs and a straight fit to the RS shaft and swing arm.
Bike came with a rear disc but as I wanted to change the bevel drive thought I'd take the opporunity to switch to a drum rear having heard it was superior to a disc. Lighter to and more in keeping with the look I want from the bike.
Will be fitting a pair of Ohlins shocks to the bike as soon as they arrive with the supplier, the originals are working but showing their age and I'm just a sucker for Ohlins.
Bodywork has arrived and I'm well impressed with the quality and fit, won't post photos until its fitted, would'nt want to totally bore the collective.
Watch this space.
