May I seek advice from the great and the good as I am not able to move forward due to the poor and sometimes conflicting advice from Garmin.

There have been occasions where I have loaded routes on to the unit from my PC and when I have chosen to navigate them there is no assistance on the screen (the route is not highlighted, no voice or text prompts, etc.)

I have recently planned routes on my PC using Mapsource for a trip in Europe. I have loaded the relevant map sets on to the 2720 unit. I then proceed to download the routes on to the unit and as a check to establish they are loaded correctly request the machine to simulate driving them. Several have not worked; the map shows an area in the UK (originally my home location and subsequently London after a re-set of the unit as I was advised to carry out by Garmin).

I have re-named the routes, even re-planned and given a different name but to no avail. Some routes that had been operating correctly prior to the re-set are failing. Pressing the menu key does not bring up the prompt asking to stop the route as happens if the unit is working correctly.

The unit has all the latest updates from the Garmin website, Garmin support staff are unable to offer advice to rectify the fault and I am becoming increasingly frustrated and angry with the device (it may be leaving the house via the window if I can not get it to work correctly!).

Any ideas/advice to alleviate the problem would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Sounds to me that it might be usefull sending it back to Garmin for them to have a look at it.

You'll need to call them on 0808 2380000 and get an RMA number. And get a name that you can call back to. Phil seems to know his stuff.

Personally, I don't think their customer support is as good as it used to be, and their call staff don't know the products like they used to. That might be due to the GPS's that I use (BM Nav 3 eg) being small fry in numbers compared to the car windsceen lot.

I seem to remember having this problem with my 2720.

When you load routes, waypoints etc from the pc onto the GPS, the GPS needs to be turned off and then turned back on again.

From memory, there is a setting that allows this to happen automatically each time you load data to the GPS. DISABLE THE AUTO RE-START OPTION and do a manual switch off and switch back on again.

Not to be confused with a hard or soft re-set, this is just a simple turn off and turn on.

Thanks for the replies, I will attempt to speak to garmin about having the unit returned to them for repair.

Popeye, the unit was switched off after the loading of a route - I was tempted to switch it off with a lump hammer:spitfire

Don't bother calling Garmin yet: Popeye is on the right track. See my posts in this thread (starting at post #3)
