I've got the basic version that uses a 7mm Allen Key to undo it. Cheaper than the Key locking version, the key & lock also look a bit flimsy, worried about the key snapping off & being unable to top up the oil.
I was considering either the allen keyed or lockable filler.
But I discovered the allen keyed covers can be undone by hand.
I'll attempt to undo a locking one before I make up my mind.

yeh, kids around here walking about with pocket fulls of sand ,some even have wheelborrows of the stuff looking out for BM's to put sand in .

it's easy if just one of your fingers has a 7mm hexagonal tip but not so simple if you just have the regular ones.

kids around here all carry 7mm allen keys as well
Just push down with two fingers on the flat top - and turn.
Thing is tho, for yer average sand carrying lout the keyed covers look as if they can't be undone. So they just cut yer HT leads instead.

i got a genuine bmw filler cap. i had to file the fittings on it to prevent it jamming in.
rubber keyhole cover fell off too.

Try gluing sand to the top of the cap:
a) You will have superb grip to undo by hand
b) Any pesky "sand carrying kids" will be fooled into thinking that its already full of sand and move onto the next BMW.

I have the lockable cap which seems to breathe a bit, nothing serious a jet wash can't get off again

does anybody actually know of anyone who has had foreign objects or material inserted into their engine via the oil filler?
Not stories about it happening to someone someone else knows, various others, or urban myths, but verifiable accounts of this really happening.....
....you're more likely to have your tank keyed, your seat slashed, or your brake hoses sliced by a knife wielding maniac than become a victim of a tooled-up 7mm allen keyed sand bagger......
...stands back and awaits the torrent of true tales contradicting his idle cynicsm...
