Well the weather forecast for Sunday and Monday was crap so if we were going to do any off roading it would have to be Saturday.

A plan was hatched to ride from Hereford to Rhayder and do a bit of off roading once we were up in the welsh mountains, as Rhayder is only about 50 miles from Hereford it shouldn't take too long to get there.

Stangely it was 90 miles and 7 hours before we got there, as the old saying goes "any plan does not survive first contact". First contact happened to be a few lanes around Kington and then a few more........

a quick snack on Offas Dyke (whoever she may be)

A few more miles down the road and a little used track was spotted, the ruts were impassable on the boxers but the raised bit in the middle was ok, it was still rutted and you couldn't see it as it was so overgrown but we got through wrestled with a gate and then got onto something a bit easier for a rest

We followed the BOAT signs which led to a cracking track with some interesting moments

yes it is that steep :eek

The locals kept an eye on us to make sure that we didn't drift off the legal parts

some were more vociferous than others, but we managed to calm her down in the end

A little more exploring led us to a track, which we missed so noticing that the track was also on the other side of the road a simple spin round onto the track and then back to where we came from

up the tricky climb and onto the next bit

P1000530.jpg

it took half an hour and much sweat to remove the airhead from the marsh, oh well it seemed a good idea at the time :blast

The navigation was on an ongoing basis

We then found another track on the pocket pc and went to investigate, well used and with some serious ruts

P1000539.jpg

slippery little climb whilst trying to avoid the ruts

P1000541.jpg

AND FINALLY we made it to Rhayder with just enough time to ride the track that has the piano keys on it, it's quite well known apparently

and down

A little more exploring, oops this one wasn't legal :augie :augie

At last we made it to the chip shop

On the ride home the weather deteriorated and we both came to the conclusion that we had chosen the correct day :thumb

Another top day out with Garry, I actually feel as though I'm getting the hang of this pig wrestling now, although I do feel as though I must have spent the day in the gym :rob :rob :rob

Thanks Garry

Rob

Fantastic pics ... looks like you both had a helluva day ... thanks for sharing some of it with us.

I gotta say; those green-lanes that you have available are absolutely gorgeous ... I don't know of anything like 'em here in the Southeast of USA (Florida). I'm jealous ....... beautiful country.

:clap

Great report and pictures, Rob, thanks for sharing! :thumb2

Oh yes, the piano keys...

Gave them a miss at the UK Advrider Rally but did the track on the recce run - remember that my cylinders knocked me over in those ruts...

Hope to see you at Tan Hill. :)
