Lost my CD burner

After trying to burn some pics & music onto CD (not at the same time) I`ve found my computer can`t detect the CD burner & I don`t know how to get it to find it I`m on XP using media player 10 & when I press F5 to refresh the player it tells me it can`t find the burner. I`ve had a look on the contro panel but no luck

Any ideas?

Does "My Computer" know it is a CD Writer? If it says "CD-ROM" rather than "CD-RW" when it is empty right click on the icon and then Properties, "Driver" tab, "Update Driver". Sometimes works...

Have you done all the Windows updates? - there's a CD writing one in there somewhere.

We used to see this fairly regularly with Windows XP when it first appeared but it stopped happening at some point.

This any help?

i've had this before & in that case the burner was just bolloxed.

check the connections, could be that.

new units are cheap here and other suppliers

Well I`ve just had a play & my limited `puter knowledge has let me down so no luck I`ve tried a CD in it to play & it spins, seems to read it but then nowt. there`s no leads I can see that`s came out or worked loose so i`m inclined to thnk the thing is buggered I`ve got the computer to search for it but so far it might as well be on my kitchen table as in the stack.

I`ve got 3500 pictures to get rid of off this too
